I have no problem with that and it's good to know that there are like minded folk here. Without wanting to sound like a blowhard, I find it tacky and boring, not to mention the other more murky concerns that come with the whole meta industry. For my part I won't bring it up again, but your answer actually made me happy.
i think the good illustration of the general sentiment is the fact that in pj discord server the bot will tell you to change the subject if you even mention NFT :D
Every single day lately I get people wanting to hire me to do their NFT collections for them. I think I worked one once and found it quite mind numbing. Not to mention I don't quite know where I stand with the whole NFT thing anyway. What do you guys think of it?
Some years ago the points weighing changed, going from 3 points per comment to 5 points per comment. And since Jal left a looooott of comments, this played very much in his favor!
He still has nearly twice as many comments as I do.
Wait, Jal was first this whole time and hasnt been active in like a decade?! That's crazy. Congrats but holy heck Jal needs a reward for that! Wherever he may be <3
I was moderator here years ago, we were very strict with what we considered pixel art. Kinda crazy we wouldn't allow these through though.
I was wondering when it would happen! Congrats!
Definitely feels a little bittersweet with jal; also very impressive that he stayed on top for so many years after not being active

Yeah. I can definitely understand that low color counts are basically what helps to define pixel art, but I also think it's good when a work goes against the "standard" and still works just as great if not even better. I get it when people go "hey this has more colors than you really need, you can trim them down and still get the same result" but not when they go "hey this looks amazing but that's too many colors to be considered pixel art imo". It makes me kind of feel like it stifles the creative freedom of artists that do know what they're doing with all those colors. I don't remember what it was like years ago but I'm glad there's some leniency now.
"It basically reinforces the idea that pixel art "has" to have limited colors..." yes and there's plenty of people who will tell you that it is one of the core characteristics of pixel art.
to be fair, from what i've heard moderators used to be much more strict about gallery rules than nowadays. they are actually pretty lenient now (which imo is a good thing).
Tbf, I think rejecting works merely because they have a lot of colors is pretty dumb. I mean it can lead to a mess of a palette that could've benefitted with having a lesser color count... But if it still works even with (and especially because of) a lot of colors, then I can't see why it should be turned down. It basically reinforces the idea that pixel art "has" to have limited colors when the hall of fame literally has images containing a color count so high that had they been submitted today, they'd probably be instantly rejected based on these standards despite the stunning detail and the amount of work that went into them. For me, a high color count =/= bad and it can work if the artist knows what they're doing... Shame the effort wasn't recognized in the same way.
this is paul's second account. works posted under his other account are much older. i guess he forgot the password.
as for the rejections, i tend to think the reason was the high amount of colours used. that's always controversial issue here.
i too wish he was active on pj, but considering that he stopped posting in 2009 only to return in 2016 and apparently get most of his work rejected, i can imagine he might feel a bit of resentment. i'd say not much can be done now.
Oh huh is that what happened? I didn't even notice the upload dates. I thought it was a long-time artist and I was wondering why his work was rejected. From the looks of the preview images, at least some of them don't look like they had any valid reason for rejection...
@Pixelarg: There is a way! I assume there's an equivalent method in every browser, but in Firefox you can bring up the page info and, in the metadata, there's a field called 'og:image'. Next to that is the URL for the picture.
See here for a screenshot.
The controversy over the resubmitting of Paul's work go to my burden. While reviewing his works, I noticed that some of them were unfairly rejected. As a moderator, I have the opportunity to push such works again. It would be a real shame for such great works to be forgotten and discarded in the past. Young pixel artists should be familiar with the fantastic work of Paul Robertson.![]()
it would be nice if the pixel arts under review could still be seen ![]()
Yeah, I was bummed to find out he didn't resubmit this himself either.. ![]()
Was about to say wow Paul is back and super active! but ya'll just approved his stuff now?! :P
Hi Chatterboxers! I hope you are one pixel closer to finishing your project! ![]()
It worked, I did see it on the front page just now!
(nowadays the frontpage cycles through different works).
... This is unfortunate. When I updated the preview I must've forgotten to optimize it...
"all the little details"
It's under 25kb now, for what it's worth :T
Yes, it did not show up on the front page, the image was over 25 kb.. :(
I hate to make the same type of message again; But I think my newest pixelart piece has been suppressed again.
Thankfully I think I know what the trigger that is causing this to happen is, but nonetheless: I've noticed that my submission "Wind Tunnel", had never made it to the new pixelart section despite being approved. And some of the work of those who have uploaded after I have, is being presently featured.
PS: I think the trigger is modifying/editing the upload prior to it being approved. I updated both the preview and the main file about an hour after I had uploaded it because I noticed something that I had remembered being animated was not moving
yeah, what i did was i cropped the file a little bit so it went below the limit. :|
but if that's not an option, you can at least post a link to animation in description.
i checked the file i couldn't upload before and it seems like 2MB
@luca: just a guess, but isn't that file over the size limit? i think it happened to me once as well.
Heyo.
So I encountered a minor problem.
I'm trying to post a new piece but no matter what I do, it shows preview pic as the main one. Help anyone? :D
Now if you really wanted a challenge, you could try to catch up to Fool's awards. ![]()
You're not reeeaaallly lvl 11 anyways until you have 11 top commenter trophies...
You may not be able to gain additional levels at that point, but you can always work to top the member list. ![]()
i'm fifty something comments away from level 11. what am i going to do then?

If it were up to me there would definitely be a page of top 100 members in the past year. And you'd all be in there! <3
I'm less than 10,000 points away from entering the top 100![]()
I'll be able to upgrade to level 7 in a month. It is also my registered PJ account for one year.
I'm Level 6 now. Gonna continue ranking up. Maybe reach the top 100 highest points
Someone surpassed jal?! Not on my watch!!
I mean I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later. I'm actually surprised he was up that long to begin with. But I suppose there's a reason he was called the people's mod in the first place. Kind of a shame that modern day pixeljoint doesn't have the same sense of community that jal fostered.
