Jason de Caires Taylor has a very interesting sculpture gallery; situated entirely underwater. He uses a special cement finish on his sculptures that promotes the colonization by coral and other marine life, giving it a very old, very surreal appearance.

Check it out!

I know a lot of pixelation members browse over here at Pixel Joint, so i think it's a good idea to let you all know to hurry up with your secret santa submissions if you took part this year. You have very little time left! Make sure to get them to Panda (via PM over at Pixelation) as soon as you're done.

The deadline is the 23rd of December!

DO NOT SUBMIT THE PRESENT HERE AT PJ UNTIL AFTER CHRISTMAS.

Best of luck.

Check out this music video I did for this kid DJ I-dee. He combines turntablism and old school hip-hop techniques with video game samples and references. Needless to say, working on a video for songs like that was my cup of tea.

I KNOW it's hybrid PA/NPA mostly - but it's SNES inspired, so that makes it legit :D. I really hope the SNES fans here will enjoy it.

Make sure you check out his video for "The right" on his vimeo channel - it's a song built on a Final Fantasy sample.

This week you're challenged to create a stylised portrait of a stock character. The more stylised the better! Make the character easily identifiable as the stereotype he/she is.

Pick one of these stock characters:
  • Wise old man*
  • Mad scientist
  • Pirate
  • Caveman*
You may not use an existing character. For example, if you were making a caveman, you can't just pixel Fred Flintstone. It has to be your own interpretation of a caveman character.

*Even though these characters are listed as being male, you may make female versions of them if you like.
ie. Wise old lady/Cavewoman.

Canvas Size - Exactly 80x80
Colours - Exactly 16
Transparency - No
Animation - No

The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.

You are challenged this week to pixel a two coloured scene. The scene can be anything you like. Some examples: a kitchen on the moon, a microscopic pretzel factory, an underwater rave party, etc...

Last minute edit: it must be a SCENE! Just having an object or character on a blank background doesn't count as being a scene!

Canvas Size - Up to you
Colours - Exactly 2. Choose two out of these six:

Transparency - No
Animation - No

The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.
