Stickman challenges you to think pixel fonts from the pixel artist perspective.
Not as single color bitmaps, but using pixelart techniques to create your typeface.
So, pixel the numbers 0 - 9 and the alphabet in either UPPERCASE or  lowercase
(or both if you're feeling adventurous and have time) in your own creative way.

Colours: More than 2 (excludes transparency) but less than 32 colors.
Canvas Size: No real restrictions, but this is not for newspaper 'war' headlines, k.
Transparency: Allowed

SPECIAL NOTE: No external AA.

The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.

From Arachne comes this interesting challenge where you must draw something that has been reclaimed by nature. The idea is to draw some kind of abandoned, man-made structure or vehicle which is turning into a more natural part of the surrounding landscape. For instance, it could be a derelict house with an overgrown garden, or a rusty, sunken boat becoming a coral reef. Also, think of an abandoned city that has been reclaimed by nature over the past century.

Colors: 16 colors
Canvas: any size
Animation: no
Transparency: no

The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.

That is, if you don't want to see blurry hand pixeled images. Firefox 3 blurs images once you zoom in on them. From what I've been reading, there isn't an option to switch this "feature" off. At normal zoom, the images seem to hold up fine however, so if you just copy and paste the images into another program to view them, this probably won't be an issue for you. This does of course compromise some of the convenience for sites like Pixel Joint, with its wonderful built in zoom on the site.

Just a heads up to everyone.

Google recently decided to change its favicon*, but, if you noticed it, most of us didn't like this change, maybe because it's different or ..whatever. So unlike most of the companies that avoid user inputs, they opened for suggestions, so here it is!

RULES

  • Resolution: 16 pixel x 16 pixel image
  • Format: .png, .gif, or .ico
  • Size: 5 KB
  • Transparency: 32 bit alpha transparency
  • Deadline is June 20, 2008
  • You must be of a legal age to form a binding contract to participate.
Suggestions to follow before starting:
  • Make the shape and profile visible.
  • Incorporate some or all of the letters in "Google."
  • Utilize the primary colors that are used in the Google logo.
  • Avoid being product specific.
  • Be timeless.
Here you can submit your artwork and find other useful explanations.
Anyway there's a thread on the PJ forum where you can discuss it! :)

*a favicon, also known as a website icon, page icon or urlicon, is an icon associated with a particular website or webpage. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favicon)

Skull says its time to lace up your boots and create a wrestler! Not just any old wrestler - come up with a completely new one full of character, just like Mexican and Japanese wrestlers!
A vampire? An eagle? A Larwick-style-character-with-a-bomb-for-a-mask?

Pixel them striking a pose, working the mic, walking to the ring or performing their finishing-move; it is up to you!
  • Colors: 16 Max
  • Canvas Size: 225 x 200 max.
  • Transparency: Allowed
  • Animation: If need be.
  • Theme: Mexican or Japanese style wrestler (due to 'character')
Examples - Jushin Liger - Ultimo Dragon - La Parka  .. skull's favourite wrester :p

The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.

If you haven't been in the pool or haven't seen the unpixely thread, then you don't know that leel is trying to earn a scholarship. All you gotta do is click on the link and vote. Simple as that.

Normally I wouldn't be interested with such things, but it's for educational purposes.

Vote here!

(Also thanks should go to Metaru for coming up with the idea.)

As some of you might have noticed, Pixelation and quite a few other sites are down atm. This is because there was an electrical gear shorted, causing an explosion and fire in the datacenter where the servers are. About 6000 servers are down because of this, Pix being on one of them. Noone was injured there, so that's good to know. And furthermore no servers seem to have been damaged. Everything should be back to normal sooner or later, but it probably still take a while until everything is back online.

ATTENTION: PEARL KNOWS ABOUT US NOW, see comments!!!

I will try to get her to vote on the closest to her idea, or favorite.
GOLD STAR FOR HIM/HER, besides the weekly ribbons!!!

Another pixel what you see based on Pearl's drawing.

Same size canvas is the only restriction.

EDIT: You may use the image as your base to work from. Tracing shouldn't be an issue.

The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.
