Based on the original manual artwork for Metroid 2

I indexed the light palette but I guess that's no good.

Black background was way too dark and the ship's shadowed regions blended into it. Was hard to tell where the ship ended and space began, especially in the back.

The original lineart was sharp pixel art. I used broad brush strokes to make the metallic, 'directioned' texture within the boundaries. After that, I sized down my brush to single pixels and overpainted just about half the sprite/outline with nitty gritty details like I would in pixel art. I indexed it, refined the palette and added in antialiasing wherever I saw fit.. You could argue that it's not real pixel art because changing individual pixels wouldn't affect the image all too much, but the same is true of any large piece. The asset fulfills its purpose in-game. This ship fits into a gritty Metroidy setting like a glove (320x240 screen, making this ship very large indeed), which I believe to be a testament to this piece's success as pixel art. Trust me, there was a >lot> of single pixel editing involved. If it wasn't enough, or it was done too dirtily, I guess the mods will decide.

Chill out, you guys acting like edits are a crime. You should know that these edits took a lot of time and effort regardless. I mean, the run animation takes a while. Now imagine an entire sheet.
