that's a pretty neat idea!

I was initially thinking of it as more of a coonstruct-copy, with the Straw Pig trying to match the strength of the Wolf or so but the Straw body housing the Wolf's soul is a great twist on it.

Thank you!

Yeah, outside of the short text, I figured a VN would try to hone in on capturing a lot of personality in the portraits.

It wasn't done with 3D, yeah (just a number of refs)- but could be fun to try and properly replicate that method down the line (for another weekly or so)! o:

Diggin' the pixels + the shapes of the larger clusters (especially in the hoodie/scarf area)- take care of yourself out there and all the best. It's tough to just exist but you'll make it through, at your own pace.

oop. before it's too late-
I'm in!

Likes and things:
Video game genre-wise) Creature-collectors, Point and Clicks, RPGs and Tactics games all re hook me in.
Some specfic series/games would be Mario&Luigi RPGs, Sonic (2D + 3D), Pokemon HGSS/B2W2, Monster Rancher, Klonoa, FF:IX, FFT:Advance 1&2.

TTRPGs + Dungeons and Dragons 5e (magic/arcane things like spells, magic items, etc).

Dogs + Simple plant life + sunsets and starry nights + psychology + dreams + plushies.

(if this helps add anything visually): Chiptune & Genesis music + lowpoly 3D models + artbooks (concept art, character design, etc) + game mock-ups.

Dislikes:
Cats (sorry), gore + most Live-Action TV shows & movies. Can't think of anything else here at the time of writing so go wild.

Nothing to really add regarding colors or anything stylistic-wise, but you can always check out my favorites if you think it would help- as long as you enjoy making what you make! Thank you for taking the time and happy holidays till secret-santa day! O:

ohh, I'm a big fan of how you contextualized and presented the icons here!
The icons do a great job complimenting the overall piece while still holding an equal importance from how you've shown it as an inventory select screen.

And while I understand the mechanical significance in the colored text- I find how the brighter green text compositionally helps the darker greens have a bit more of a presence on both the top and bottom particularly eye-catching! The beige/browns already lead your eyes along both screens while the blues help to frame/segment each area, and with the warmer/saturated colors primarily on top + cooler/desaturated colors on the bottom, it feels like you really effectively pushed the palette through and through.

Really impressive work as always! : )

Thank you- yeah, really dove in on this one so I'm glad it turned out pretty well. The effect on the text took a bit of experimenting but I'm glad it turned out fairly well. : )

Perigi @ 11/2/2022 18:36 commented on 2b - Level One

I think I could have rendered it out better but if you use both images together for context, the symbol itself on the hat is also at the top of the building in the upper screen. Since the bottommost screen was a sorta character interaction, I jumped to how Gabriel Knight portrays those interactions (with just the solid-color background), but I could have probably done more to include more info.

But their intentions are open-ended to be sure- since text can have a lot of impact, I wanted their question to be posed to the player as a sort of "who will you punish in exchange for religious-acknowledgement of their repentance", but who can say if that's a good thing for you (or for them)? The little health bars next to each icon in and of itself suggests something HP related will happen depending on your choice, for sure. :B

And the green sky- it was actually a spur of the moment decision based on a conversation in the PJ Discord! There was some discussion on how green can add a sort of otherworldly feeling or so, and I thought that might work well to further enunciate the feeling an abandoned church-like building might have!

Soo, at this point, the game I was visualizing certainly was a point and click at it's core, yes. I had some thoughts of trying to incorporate a sort of RPG element but at the time, the only thing that was coming to mind (to work in tandem w/ the point and click idea) was menuing/ heavy reliance on text, which I didn't necessarily want to lean in to for the first entry (since I know text can really frame how the overall work can be precieved). I also didn't want to try and muddy the composition with a bunch of info/icons, but in retrospect, I think I could have tried to visually showcase a bit more regarding the game-mechanics.

That pushed me to make the two additional pieces for Level One. Even though all three don't really mechanically show anything more than point and click, it at least helped me expand a bit of what I was thinking about (having alt. locations to explore & character ineraction + gave a chance to lean more into a religious/cult theme with the text).

I can see how the cursor I went with could be seen for a rail shooter- that's certainly a misstep of clarity on my part. That does make me recosinder things about how the game might have worked though (regarding more combat-based encounters), so I appreciate that! o:

Oh, thank you- I appreciate the analysis (and other comments)! o:

Yeahh, I did look at a few things to try and piece together how I could use the palette effectively (which probably explains the two impressions)- I'll take note to try and keep things a bit more cohesive for future projects.
Regarding the characters, I definitely leaned more towards that direction for sure- felt like it worked better in tandem to the giant hand/eyes. And for the border, thank you- yeah, you nailed it: I felt that the overall composition needed something to offset what was happening with the giant hand so I tried to make use of the colors I was already using (since I think at this point, I was using a bit less-than-half of the palette that week).
