So very, very true :)

I did mention that I am the worst off for even responding, yes? Trolls don't usually rile me up like that. I haven't been baited like this since 2001-02

There you go. Nice edit :)

The pixels work man, no creative crit. It's just... you know...

I think the only big problem you have is that you have a friend that:

A) would want a picture of Hitler shown in a way that was not meant to piss on his grave

B) you actually like enough to put the time in to do the piece.

Your friend sounds like a real winner.

Hey Theguy,

Congratulations! You seem to have trolled on just the right day to get my attention, and I will now attempt to engage your trolling even though rationally, I know there is no payoff to it.  I think I actually will take offense  to this, let me see if I can break down for you why I should:

1- You might want to rent Talladega Nights, which highlighted what every thinking person over the age of twelve already knows - that merely starting a statement with "No offense or anything but..." or "I don't mean to be rude but..." and "With all due respect..." does not cancel out the fact that whatever one follows those words with is going to be offensive. This tells me that you are either at or below the age of twelve, or you are a bit challenged upstairs.

2- Your comment is clearly a criticism, not a compliment. This in itself is not offensive, until one realizes that you do not offer up anything constructive that might improve on the work. It's possible that you know you have nothing constructive to offer, which leads to item three...

3- Minus the sword you made using reference that you did not site in the description of the piece, your pixel work is inconsistent and generally very weak. Dithering the crap out of something does not make a bad drawing better.  There are a dozen or two artists here that could come in with what you said, and have the skills to make me cower in the corner silently while honing my skills, but as Nick Swardson would say, your shit's weak son, Shit's WEAK.

In closing, let me again congratulate you on winning this interaction, because just by my posting any reply at all, I have let you know that you were able to bait someone yet again. Since I have lost, let me further bury myself with a quick look at who's shlong is bigger.

You have 39 pieces for a total of 10 Faves.

I have 5 pieces for a total of 6 faves.

If I keep that pace up, by the time I reach 39 pieces I should have my faves in the high 40's.

Take your meds, theguy. With all due respect, you're a real pos without them.

I'll go up the list with the responses here:

Banane - I kind of agree, but was out of time, and I won't continue at this point since it's up for voting. Seems shady to continue to improve the piece.

Adam - That color issue hadn't occured to me, but definitely makes  sense. There actually was another color in play, much more blue, and there were other shades of it, but when I really looked at it at the end, it just didn't make that much sense. So rather than the 25 or 26 I had, it got pared down. I will totally keep that under advisement the next time this kind of thing comes up though, thanks.

Lander - wha? wha do they look like? Agreed on the AA, sort of. I am sort of getting to like less AA stuff I have been seeing lately though, so I am on the fence there.

Adarias - Definitely struggled there, especially considering there's no scarf there. See the ref photo here: http://drewgilbert.com/images/THEYLIVE_Ref.jpg Had i more time, I would have tweaked that more.

B_blahblah - My inclination is to not explain things for people, at least when the theme and rules are already there for people to get meaning from. I hate to pull some modern art BS line on someone, but in this case, either this piece succeeds in putting a scenario in your mind as to what could be going on here or it does not. If it does not, then that is my failing in creating the image, or (less likely) you have no imagination. I hope that it is not too subtle, but I definitely wanted people to have to think a bit about it.

Flyguy - See the edited description or go here: http://drewgilbert.com/images/THEYLIVE_Ref.jpg If it was at all unclear to anyone that I was using reference for this, I apologize. I did my best to let people know this, though I should have been faster to get the ref up.

In closing, I am sad to say I actually like the preview image of this better than the actual image. This challenge is really well represented this week, and I look forward to my green ribbon next week :)

It was a hugely challenging er, challenge, which is why I felt compelled to try it. I had a very small window of time at the book store I was working in, so the combination of concept, color limits and time made for a mad scramble. I literally took about a minute on the concept and once my brain crapped out STILTBALL. No wait, that's not enough STILTBALL RELAY. Ok that has to be it, then I just had to commit to it, even though other ideas went through my head as I did them. It was fun, but very difficult.

Oh good, I thought that Metaru was being glib there, and didn't know how to respond. Personally I think it would be odd to loop it, though I suppose I could have made that last frame hold for a full minute. I think I will let this one go though, I hope to represent better for this week's challenge.

What are the general thoughts on using real photos and pixelizing them, assuming we're not just resizing them and are in fact using them as a reference to create real pixel art. I expect to be able to join in this challenge, and the rules for it made me immediately think of adapting something like this. Taking something with historical context and inserting some sort of creature, either subtly or more brazenly.

The challenge sort of begs for it, but I am new to the site so I am not clear on if this is frowned on, or if it is cool as long as we fess up to it and don't take shortcuts actually ripping the thing off. What say ye, peanut gallery?

Man, I SO want to see even a small amount of animation with the people. It really begs for it. As for the sport itself, did i not read the directions right, were we meant to describe the sport in this much depth? I honestly liked the concept much better before reading the rules, because my imagination went all sorts of places just through the great visual. Once you laid the rules out, all i could think of was the questions i had about holes in the game. No real crit on the pixels, they look great. Compositionally though, that is a heck of a lot of sky.

Thanks Vertigo. I actually did try to do a dithered gradient, but it looked pretty bad. I am fairly novice in the PA dept, so i don't know if there are other tricks to achieve a gradient and still keep the 32 color limit. If anyone has thoughts on that I am happy to hear them.
