@cure - thanks for the tip about the pixelation, I might want to take the work there. There is a piece I want to really work on and put real effort in it (Flying island in WIP forums), and the lack of response here was a bit discouraging. I'll try my luck there. I have some good experience with comments in gallery though.

@jalonso - thanks for the clarification, I understand your point and being a moderator myself (a forum one) I know there are some tough decsision and how are the relations between the mods and not interfering. I don't bear a grudge against anyone I was just really surprised and needed some things to be pointed out. Luckily there were a few good souls out there to post something. I promise to try and help others on the forums in return.

Seeing as my recent topic on the forum was about a piece needing rejection and seeing two people who took they time to explain and clarify a few things on the forum voicing their opinions, I feel ab urge to say a few words from a point of view of a person who has not yet developed the skills to be sure to have their work accepted with each submission.

For me "quality issue" is a bit too vague, as there is really a variety of things that can be done to improve work, some more than others. Ok, granted, there are some sloppy works that are just lazy, but sometimes you put much work (or too much in case of my excessive dithering) and seeing the piece rejected just hits you very hard.

I know that with so many submissions each day it's hard to write a paragraph about ways to improve work, but maybe a quick automated list of things to improve that would require clicking a few checkboxes would work? This would give people a basic idea about ways to improve.

For example:

x jagged lines
x proportions or image resolutions
x unnecessary background
x color problem (contrast or palette)

Also the message sometimes is unclear. I had technical problems with uploading an image and using words "misc reasons" right after "quality control" were realy misleading.

I humbly welcome any critique and critique in gallery in my experience proved to be better than posting at WIP forums. Also I know and understand that being a moderator on a forum/website is hard work and people are not being paid for that. And I thank you for your work, but sometimes your decisions affect other people and it should be taken into consideration.

Nice pixel work but, ummm, I think I saw something like that a while ago:

Thx for the comment.

Well 83 colors are a result of using different palettes for each person and then combining it to one file without limiting them. I'll upload next version as a gif.

I'll try to get the contrast right but my screen is pretty bad in that matter. As for TotalBisquit - I will add him too. :)

I love the dithering! AWESOME! Also the dithering on the lower parts of the mountains gives it a foggy atmospher and is not that obious.

Glad that you managed to get the leafwork done better than me. I'm still working on mine though.

I don't get it, it seems fine in the graphics program, but when I upload it it gets broken.

EDIT: Should be ok now. Thanks for the comment.

That is a nice kitten and I like the name, but that's not the point here. It's just that there have been many new pixel artist who just downgrade pictures like that. Don't take this personal, it's not. Perhaps you're a cool guy and beginnings are rough.

I think you should try to make the kitten uniform first and post it here, then start from there by doing the texture. Texturing and coloring is hard, believe me - I know. When I tried to make my first pixel art I made like 500x500 canvas and it just overwhelmed me. :)

I hope I lifted your spirits up if it was just for a bit. Don't quit and just work hard to do everyting better. :)

I like you sippy cup and the plant is cool too. I just don't like this one that much. Cheers.

OMG he has a tumor growing out of his head!

But srsly - IMHO there's nothing wrong with using a referencing image as long as you make it a proper pixel art. Slapping a bunch of colors on a reduced image does not pixel art make - and that's exactly how it looks like.

It might not be, but personally I think it needs a bit more work.

Try to make the colroful patch on his fur more furry, less blocky and make his right ear more standing out. Also the background and the outline don't look cool.

How did you make this beautiful palette?

user
artnat @ 11/8/2010 13:33 commented on Potential beat down

I love the coloring and the palette! Goregous I say!

Although there are two things that might need some work - obiously, as the wenruto has already stated, the feet are a bit weird. His right one has a very, VERY big toe indeed and the right one looks like the guy doesn't have a heel.

The other thing is thecut in the tunic on his right side. It looks a bit funny. I think it should be a bit lighter.

Other than that it is a fine piece of pixel art! Cheers!

I thought that would show the animation in a better way. You can't see the silhouette with the transparent background and you can't see the sword with the city background. Maybe I'll try to make it a bit clearer.

Thank you :) It Might Get Loud is awesome!

The Sandman is a closed and, mostly, chronological story, so keep that in mind when trying out.

Although the first issues have a bit odd coloring (it was updated in Absolute Sandman edition, which is really sweet) the story is really worth overcoming the biases.

Here's a panel of the original scene:

Take care :)

Well, depending on the point of view, excluding just a small group of digital art such as pixel art means that the larger group is allowed. I also think that 'old' means: 'made some unspecified time ago but not made strictly for this challenge'. And I'd say that 'rework' means do ANYTHING with your work without making a completely new one.
But until our challenger says something we can't be sure.

Can I use a collaborative picture (with the permission of the other artist)? Outline was by my friend but I coloured the picture.
