I stand corrected.

My only beef is that when the light is hitting the darkened planet, the light should only be visible on the outside of the planet.

This is actually quite amazing, the dithering works well with your color choice, it's smooth, but has a great pixel art feeling to it and it contrasts well with the black background.

I meant it as a compliment.

This looks alot like 1 up's style.

Well this kicks my entries ass. Good work though, it looks fantastic.

The outline is a bit bright, trace over the light bits with the darkest colord take the color of the main color, set the transparency to about %50 and outline what you just traced over. Other then that, these are really good, the facial exressions are fantastic.
