That claw foot tub looks like a good buddy. I want to throw a frisbee for him. I would give him belly rubs, but if he spills his water, does he perish? Is the water part of him, I wonder? Does he wag his rubber duckie? I just love that little guy.

Also, I like that these are all mystical, expressive, and fun, and then there's the true monster. Cold, focused, unfeeling, single minded and bipedaled (heh), the surprising and terrifying cyclist- likely not even using the bike lane.

Absolute triumph. I can't believe I'm seeing this for the first time. Mastery of the craft, immense in its size both in dimension and in time allotment. Classic, dramatic subject. This piece is sheer willpower, and the praise is well deserved. I've never seen anything like it. Save the poor soul that some day may follow the path of a similar effort, there be dragons there.

I really like the auger tires and skis on the machine. I get the sense you've looked at old snow tractor transport because that is exactly how they used to do it. Notably the old Fordson Snow Motor. Awesome detail.

Definitely a unified tone. I like the flurry of ideas in the platform. The skulls, the vines, the culvert pipes, and the stones at the edge that turn inward to the viewer like the top of a spiral staircase. It feels cold, dead and overgrown, but deceitful with all that shadow for something dangerous to be hiding in. There's a surprising amount of interest to think on in a piece that's largely hidden.

Surreal palette. I've always liked a bold royal blue. I like that the weapon spirals down to its own shadow. It's really aesthetically pleasing.

I love corvids, and you've done well to make one here. They always look so focused. I like that you went with a neutral background, with a bit of texture to it as opposed to a flat color. A subtlety that fits the animal.

Cure, I agree. Pixel art, as accessible, controllable, and versatile as it can be, is painstaking. I don't have the discipline to push on when I lose momentum in any medium, but especially pixels. I really envy those that can chip away on a project for weeks, months, and good lord- years. I'm even relatively patient, but not at all disciplined.

I'm just happy the name Blick came to me after having used my old battle.net name for years, not realizing that when said outloud it was rather... phallic. I was 11 when I came up with blckhwk. I joined a clan, so I became blckhwk(sphere), and deleted the parentheses for my names elsewhere. Was eventually referred to as Blick on a forum, and ran with it. And then, as though the phallic nature of my name can not be escaped, I was 16 when I first walked into a Dick Blick art supply store.

When I first started pixelling, at a time when I knew I wanted to hang with it for a minute, I read a post on old purple Bruce Lee Pixelation. An artist that had been in the industry for long enough to be a bit cynical. Dragonslayer, maybe? Anyway, he said something along the lines of, "You get thoughts of making the next popular IP (like a Street Fighter or Castlevania I assumed) and then you land a gig and suddenly you're on your third Barbie Horse Adventures game."

I think about that sometimes, and it still makes me laugh. Barbie still pays though, I would hope.

Anyway, I want to be bro-gurt

I love the simplicity of this. It's ominous too. A hanging mask, of crude construction, with an expression of ill surprise. It made me laugh, and then made me think of what this poor mask has seen.

I started pixel art in 2002, and then was inspired by an artist that went by "Ndeal" sometime in 2003. You can still find some of his stuff on DA if you search the name.

I can't believe I started poking around MSpaint 18 years ago. It was all because I moved to a trailer that had dial up internet, so I couldn't play games online anymore.

Tpoe: Small world. I went to NPHS. Been in Fairbanks, and outlying area, since I was 10.

I love the pattern work. Great job managing to get fine lines in close proximity without muddying it together. The lighting and texture are well realized as well. A small piece, but a lot to look at and appreciate here.

I dig the colors here. Bold, strong contrast, really rich choices.

I check here maybe once or twice a year. Usually I don't even sign in, I just lurk. Hard to believe it's already been 13 years since I uploaded. Everyone else that stayed current in art has gotten so ridiculously good.

These are all of great quality. I have to point out those silky blue wings though. They are next level. Incredibly well done getting them light and translucent.

Blick @ 5/2/2020 14:31 commented on Big Bird

I've wondered before if there's a way to make it a sticker, because those look pretty clean. I never looked into it though. I think there will always be compression despite your best efforts once its uploaded though. Pixel-level fidelity has always been the thorny patch for a pixel artist uploading work.

My social media is super dull. My Twitter is @Blicken but there isn't anything creative there. I do follow other artists and lurk through the hashtags to see what's out there.

Blick @ 5/2/2020 01:07 commented on Big Bird

Ended up back here due to quarantine, and my busy season doesn't start for a week or two. Not surprised engagement is down. The site isn't best on mobile, apps are king now, so I see a lot of artists on Twitter. I expected it when Punaji failed, LOBD shut down, Pixelation slowed down, that PJ would follow. We are remnants.

Seriously though. I see my effing shark on the sidebar everyday. It would be nice to have a yearly hall of fame. Or make it so the sidebar cycles a larger variation.

I'm so tired of that shark.

Blick @ 2/23/2009 00:30 commented on Skanking Ninjar

It's looks a bit too much like he's propelling himself, like an angry walk, which I guess looks a lot like skanking. But skanking there's no illusion of forward propulsion. Perhaps because in real life, there are backgrounds to show the person is just moving in place. But you know what I mean. I think.

Still made me laugh to see this. Definitely one of my favorites to come from the challenge.

Holy crap do I ever love this idea. I probably won't enter, but I definitely have fun thinking of ideas and putting down sketches anyhow.
