Woah, Pixelween is back in town? My pixel art skills are a little too rusty at this point to jump into weekly challenges, but I might have to redo my old 2007 entry.

As far as an uneven light source, would that just be something like warping or imperfections in a window? Or maybe bouncing off of the window mullions? The only "light source" is coming through a wall of 4 foot tall windows immediately behind my desk.

I hadn't realized it until I realy started to analyze it, but the finish on the desk is semi-glossy and reflective too, so I'm sure that is also playing a role. Light it weird.

So shadows are a pretty easy thing to understand, right? If light particles hit an opaque material, they bounce off, and as you would expect, you are left with a reduced light level (shadow) on the opposing side of the light source.

Well apparently it's more complex than that. Sitting at my desk at work, I glanced down and noticed something particularly odd about the shadow being cast by a wire nut.

Anyone have an explaination for this phenomenon? It's hard to tell from the picture, but in person the "shadow" being cast seems brighter than the rest of the desk. Is the light somehow warping around it?

Anyone else seen the new pixel art music video from Ronald Jenkees?

My mistake, I seem to have overlooked that part of the screenshot.

That's actually not quite right. Identical pixel placement copying is in fact against the rules, but this has been pixeled new from the ground up only copying the character's design. The original is an entirely different type of art so the pixel placement can't really be stolen, and since he obviously isn't claiming it as his own character he came up with, this is absolutely allowed. You will notice lots of fan art of characters from games, movies, etc all over PJ.

The character's likeness is very good. Nice work!

I seem to have the complete opposite luck with games. They become huge titles and the game quality goes down hill and the community destroys whats left of the game. I started playing World of Warcraft during the first month of the games release, and I starting playing League of Legends during beta testing. I'm scared to start putting money into games now.

I want another Star Wars Galaxies from before the economy was destroyed.

Apparently the Omsk bird or Winged Doom is a Russian meme based off of a drawing by Heiko Muller.

Not sure if this has been noted before, but I may have found part of the reason for broken images sometimes showing up under the new pixel art slide, and it seems to be triggered by the uploader. I submitted a piece, after which I made a few minor tweaks and re-uploaded the file under a new name. Afterwards I noticed it was a broken image on the front page, so I poked through the code I found it was still pointing to the old file name. I renamed the new version to the same name as the original and uploaded it and it showed up immediately. Doesn't look like it's due to cached script either since it shows broken from multiple computers on different networks. It seems to be very much reproducible on my end.

I remember my family's transition from Windows 3.1 to 95. The start menu blew my mind. I technically wasn't allowed on the computer, but I would always sneak on an make stuff like this in paint. i.imgur.com/an3iXAP.png This is actually the earliest saved drawing I ever made in paint recovered off of our old computer.

I admit that OSX is a very solid platform, capable of doing most anything the average user needs. I also admit that it is more stable and user friendly than Windows. That being said, it's biggest pro is for power users it's biggest con. The level in which Apple locks down their software/hardware and the amount of proprietary connectors they use is what allows it to be as stable as it is, but that is also why I will never own one. I've worked in IT for the past 5 years (Mind you I'm not talking about The Geek Squad, I'm talking some srs sys admin stuff.) on servers, PCs, Macs, Linux, the works. It's hard to beat the shear level of versatility and universal support that comes with a PC. As odd as it may seem, Microsoft has also taken the innovative edge away from Apple with their release of the Surface Pro tablet. Apple is starting to become stagnant with their products.

If you're technologically challenged and want to pay a premium so that you have fewer options to choose from, buy a Mac.

If you actually intend to use programs or know what you're doing, buy a PC.

If you're allergic to the ultraviolet rays from sunlight, piece together a machine from the spare parts warehouse in your basement and write your own custom OS based off of a Linux kernel.

It's technically doable but not a good idea. Any laptop put together by a manufacturer is built with certain specifications in mind, such as power consumption, heat dispersion, etc. It's easier to do on a desktop because you can add aftermarket equipment to make up the differences. Not so easy on a laptop.

Hmmm.... sounds like I'll be coming up with up with some ideas for a contest then here in the coming months.

Thanks, I know all about the donation page though, I have in fact used it. The question was whether it was due to a lack of funding or if there were also other reasons.
