I wouldn't say PJ "outlived" anything given that we no longer bundle desktop icons or forum avatars for people to use.

Also this place takes way too much inspiration from twiiter with things like wrongthink to say it outlived it.

PJ used to be so much more accepting and tolerant once....

"Good old PJ" had an IRC where everyone was welcomed. Last I checked PJ of today has a discord with some sort of authoritarian vetting process because god forbid you should offend someone by saying oekaki is real pixel art.

So apparently this game was made entirely using AI. For those of you who can look past your own insecurities for a few seconds, I highly recommend you give this a try, there's something very beautiful here.

I still don't get why everyone is all up in arms about AI given that real live humans frankensprite and "copyright" ownership over palettes. At least the AI isn't threatening to murder anyone's dog. 

No. He stopped replying to everything including his emergency contact and even skype.

It's possible he's still alive but scrubbed his internet identity clean and change his phone number. Because last time I talked to him he was somewhat depressed and said he's going to turn off his phone and go fishing for a week. That was the last I ever heard from him.

I mean frankensprites, recolors, and rips were always a thing. AI just makes that process mildly faster. No one ever freaked out to this extent about bootlegs before when it was just humans doing it.

Yeah it sucks that people are stealing commissions but as long as there's profit to be made grifters gonna grift.

At face value though I don't see anything wrong with AI art. If anything we should be encouraging AI to be more artistic, because we're only a few steps away from living breathing artificial intelligence and real actual thinking machines. AI art is probably the luckiest boon in the field of mechanical sentience.

How is googling something more informative than asking artists directly? I asked an honest question because I wanted to know what you people thought, not what google is trying to push.

Also not everyone has a twitter account or watches youtubers or reads those "thousands of articles" from clickbait sites like Kotaku, Polygon, or CNN. I just asked a simple direct question. You're making this more complicated that it needs to be.

What mainstream game, what mainstream show or movie, is using AI art?

The only thing I've seen so far are a handful of pieces on reddit, which are 100% free, so no one is losing any money, the only thing it's endangering is egos.

Because proper oekaki focuses on precision strokes which emulate physical brushes and is more akin to pastel paintings. That takes skill and practice.

Here's a decent oekaki piece, go ahead and try your "sloppy chaotic" nonsense now.

This is why I always advocated against the "1 pixel" rule because PJ is closing itself off from some pretty great art.

I said it before a million times and I'll say it a millionth and one: Oekaki is a legitimate form of pixel art.

Everything in the last decade has just been trite reboots and remakes, almost no original ideas in sight. So at this point, yeah why not turn it over to AI, might actually get something new for a change.

Believe it or not but I still care about this place, a little bit, what it used to be at least. The only alien concept is why PJ embraced the wierd lie of "1 pixel at a time". Because I've seen artists from LucasArts and Sierra and a bunch of other places talk about art and they all seem very confused about this supposed "golden rule" of pixel art.

Large companies replacing human workers with automation is just something that happens in life. Plenty of other sectors have dealt with it. Time for the art world to step up.

Also when you say "audiences" what do you mean? Movies? Comics? Video games? Traditional paintings? What's the medium for this hypothetical audience? Because depending on what it is it might night be as much of a "huge loss" as it may seem.

Ok so AI speeds up bootlegging. Cool. Get rid of AI and bootleging will still be there, it will just take slightly longer. But people will still find a way to rip people off.

Yes but how a tool "is inserted" into society is no different than how an artist "is inserted" into society.

That's why I said what's the difference between an AI doing an art piece and an artist doing an almost 1:1 "reference" piece.

And all I'm hearing is hysterical screaming. Some folks over on DA went as far as removing their entire galleries because they don't want them used as a learning reference for AI, but what's hilarious is that it was always used as a reference by humans.
