My piece, gordon freeman recieved this comment before being, urmm, closed.
"Well if it's a trace, then it's not allow. Use your imagination, only submit your own ideas, and pieces into the galleries, nothing else please. Sending back for revision." Says The B.O.B. Where as I saw in the rips vs trace topic made by jalonso this "TRACING This is a trace and NOT a rip. The focus here is pixelart technique and subject matter is not that important. Reporting these is fruitless because the original is not pixelart. However reference link should be given and if a member fails to do so you can ask for it... and should." I did offer my refrence and I did state that it is a trace. So my question is... why was it closed!? Thank you for your time. |

Yes, bumps are allowed.
Well, since BOB sent it back, you're going to have to talk with him directly. I suggest PMing him. |

The reason why your piece was rejected was because you did not state before that your piece was a trace(when it clearly was) and then you wrere forced to do when we asked you to do it . even with the most well known images around, its a must that you state when you draw over a piece and color over it. even if you just scale the original, edit it in any way or simply draw OVER it. references are always a must, no matter what you used as a reference/source.
now, sometimes the nature itself of a image may put some doubts on the valid pixel work you did(for example, when you aim for a photorealistic pixel art). in such cases its all about adding some WIP stages of the image as you work ina GIF file or in a single image, upload it in a imagehosting site like imageshack or tinypic, and then put the link in the description to clear any doubts in the first strike. as you spend time in the comunity, such requeriments arent necesary as in the end we all know that you did your work on you own. the second problem that apeared later was the fact that since your HL2 piece was being analized, we went to check your other submisions and to our suprise another 2 of your pieces were traced too, and in both you failed to provide the original/source image from where you traced those images. (with one of the even being aproved). now the point is simple. there is nothing wrong with tracing, as long as you state you did it and provide the proper source from where you traced and/or WIP. someone eventually catchs you(and i'm speaking in general) and you get exposed as a fraud, wich is not something like a trial, but no one likes to be pointed as a fake and get marked like an idiot. if something is still not clear, feel free to ask. |

I think the problem here is that the piece simply isn't original enough. It's a pixeled version of another person's artwork and nothing more. The PJ gallery is a place where artists can display their own art, and I personally don't think this qualifies for that.
