Boo!
Enjoying retro games greatly I decided to delve into pixel art, but the lack of time on my hands was devastating and my pixel artist dream soon came to an end. Yesterday a guy messaged me "Hey, you love retro, don't you? I found this great page full of awesome pixel art. Check it out!" and it got me thinking of giving teh pixelz another chance. So I fired up The GIMP and made this: a little animation of a bunny walking using the Gameboy's grayscale palette. For your viewing pleasure/pain I also upped it from 24x24 to 96x96. ![]() I'm still working on 2 more frames to make the animation smoother, but I'd really appreciate some C&C on the WIP. Thanks! No, it does. But the two legs just switch spots. (the leg on the ground changes sizes)
But really this doesnt look like a walk at all I'm afraid. You're going to have to really rethink it, and use at -least- 6 frames to get a decent cycle out of it. Right now it just looks like he's raising one foot then the other, and even that's hard to decipher. |

It could work with 4 frames too... But you need to make the back leg darker, and maybe while one feet is high, put the other one slightly behind where it already is.

Not necessary to follow every step, but aforementioned site will give you idea or two. |

The curse of starting something and then getting preoccupied with something else strikes again! D:<
This is the most recent version, albeit it dates back to 2009-05-29. Again, I'll paste both the original and the upscaled image, beacuse for some reason Firefox likes to filter zoomed images. Anybody knows where I can turn that off? ![]() Maybe "walking" wasn't the right description, since I was going for more of an exagerrated march-sorta thing. I think I will change the head a little bit and maybe make the left leg a little darker as lucas_irineu suggested. Also making the left hand not swing as much as well as slowing the animation down a little might be a good idea. Edited by Hamstah - 27 October 2009 at 1:56am |

that different feet are moving is now easily seen, so that's an improvement, but as Walrus said, there are still issues. Particularly, his legs shouldn't just stop when they hit the ground or he looks like he's marching in place. when you move your foot that's on the ground goes behind you, because it's remaining in place while your body moves forward, so you need to have the feet move back after they're on the ground.
beyond that, the arms move along with the leg on the same side. Maybe that's what you're going for with the marching thing, I don't know much about marching, but that's not how people walk - the opposite arm and leg go forward at the same time. Right arm, left leg/left arm right leg. |

Thank you both, once I get back home I'll adress those issues.
As for the legs and arms moving together, I can't believe how I could've missed that.... |

Yeah, just make the legs go back a bit, and move the arms too, and you are done :P
