Hello pixel world.

I am a startup board/card game designer, who finally decided to chase his dreams, instead of staying in a dead-end job. An opportunity had surfaced to publish one of my games and to generate decent amount of hype for it. But to publish any of my designs, I need art – this is where You come in.

I want to create a physical card game based on run’n’gun/shoot’em up games of yesteryear. Yes, you heard me right, a physical card game! :P This is a great opportunity to step outside of a digital game design and challenge yourself.

I have a solid design and an opportunity to publish it trough a company that makes POD products.

The game is aimed at gamers, both board/card and video ones. I am hoping to introduce digital gamers to the amazing analogue gaming world with future games from the “Powered by Imagination” line. But the game will be sophisticated enough to appeal to the usual card/board gamers.

I can understand that, you might think that boardgames have not moved beyond monopoly it terms of design. But board and card games had a great renecainse starting in late 90s early 2000s. While it is still a niche market, there is a profit to be made... don't believe me? check http://www.boardgamegeek.com/.

Who I need?

I need at least 1 dedicated artist who can create the bulk of the art in one style. You will need to create art inspired by 16/32 bit era graphics (think between SNES and Neo-Geo) of sprites and backgrounds. I need a person who is creative and has a vision, as I am leaving a lot in the hands of the artist on how to create the content within given boundaries (how sci-fi, gritty, manga-esque the art is, are the main enemies robots, monsters, soldiers?).

I am also looking to buy pre-created sprites and tiles from artists, so I can use them in my game. See the list below, anything that is not listed as custom, I am willing to buy pre-made at reasonable prices - if you think that you have something for sale that would fit the project - drop me a line.

What I need?:
  • tiles for card templates in pixel art style (similar to a game GUI)
  • custom icons for different types of attacks.
  • custom portraits of 4 characters (military/futuristic) in given colour schemes
  • boss characters with art for special attacks
  • sprites of enemies (they can be custom or something or have created already), those can be adjusted slightly to create a different enemy (add different weapon or even change colour).
  • level graphics, representing current level the players are on. I don’t see a problem in using pre-created sidescroller tiles to “create” the levels. Those would basically be sidescroller tiles.
  • background graphics to be pasted in a layer below the level layer (generic city, sky etc).

The default style is metal slug / shock troopers 2 (near future soldiers and weaponary) inspired at the moment, but can be amended by the lead artist.

If you are interested in helping me get this project finished, drop me a PM or (preferably) an email at cybrasty@gmail.com. I am aiming to release the POD copy in April 2012.

If any of you guys would like to hear more about the project, say so, here in the forum. I don’t want to makee this post amazingly long and I am not sure what aspects would you’d be interested in ;) I am not able to offer to much money, but I am willing to share the profits (%amount negotiable) and pay for some sprites.

edit: The resolution of the character sprites should be big enough to print the sprite nicely on aroud 1/2 - 1/3 of a poker card. I am thinking of 64x64, should look more than fine enlarged x2. All tiles should be in scale.
