I've seen alot of waterfalls both on tv and in video games and I wanted to try to make a decent looking waterfall. I originally was just going to put placeholder land around it, but I couldn't help myself but put grass and rocks.

I'm also going to try to animate this too. Just wanted C&C before going through all the work so I don't have to change every frame.

It could use a bit of contrast. The color blue is a bit dirty how about saturating a bit or deeping it?

Thanks Shark. I know it may not look like it, but here's an update:

Made the water more blue, added another water highlight, added a darker rock shade for under the overhang, and added a couple rocks that have grown grass on them.

this is really good although try jalonso's suggestions, this has great
style, why not make the rest of the scene :D

Honestly? Because I'm afraid if I make it bigger I will ruin it. It's a comfort-zone thing. I feel safe in small images. Not much to mess up I guess.

Perhaps make it so the water runs in a dip like \___/ because to me at least it seems to be flat on the land. otherwise it looks great. I would love to see it animated

well even if you do mess it up you can always remove the rest, just
keep a saved copy, a tree and the rest of teh waterfall down to a
lake would be great :D

Yeah, I just wanted to hash out the basic frames, now I can go through, tweak and get the right speed.

Wow, okay, I found out that if I take my 14 frame animation and take out every other frame and make it only a 7 frame animation, it looks quicker and better:

Nice.

Now, how am I going to make that mist without using my spraycan tool.

suggestion: you have two white things on the grass and two grassy rocks on the cliff. composition wise its too balanced (nature hates balance). remove one thing and just leave three(grassy rock). someone above said to dip the water into the ground, don't fight, do it.

I was only kidding, it was a joke. I appreciate all your comments. I just found it funny to put balanced vaccuums in the pic!

I wasn't trying to mean. Sorry if it came out the wrong way.

It's a good animation, and the butterfly is a good touch, but it looks like someone spiked his eggnog.

Well, I laced the flowers with 'Herbal Green', if you know what I mean.

I would slow him down, but I would have to use a whole nother cycle of the falls and that might slow him down too much. *LOL*

And yes, I broke down and used a little airbrush.

*waits for the 'hardcore', 'oldschool' and 'grassroots' artist to lynch him...

Very, very nice.

The only thing that bothers me all along (sorry ) is that it looks like the white highlights that flow down are "produced" by the switch of horizontal and vertical they just "floop" out. but I am not sure how to fix that though,

the big stress to me, is that you have not yet been able to sugest that the rocky wall it vertical. right now, it's like a escher drawing!! the river looks falling, but the wall, liiks just like a floors. mainly because of it's continuous light. maybe you should darken the rocks as they go down, or even add a bit of fog, to simulate the watter bouncing of the river down below.

also the shading on the rocks sugest that the light is to the right, well... on the grass it looks like it's from the right, so by having the same shading, you sugest the same plane. it would be nice if you could darken the rocks and reoriente the highlights. that could help.

Wow, finally. Thanks for the crits, the stone wall bugged me too, I just couldn't figure out how to make the rocks look like they're in the right perspective. I'll have to work on that. Maybe dd another shade of brown to give some shadows?

Another thing you may want to try is changing the perspective of the rock faces.  Right now they look a bit circular, which gives an 'overhead' appearance and that 'Escher' effect.  Try making them a bit more of a vertical oval shape and it will give a sense of vertical plane for your wall. ;)
