Rule #1: Upload the right filetype. Never .jpg (or .bmp)*, always .gif or .png . Otherwise the image looks blurred and we can't efficiently critique it. Maybe you already knew this, and it was a simple mistake. Either way, try reuploading it. *Edited to cover all sh*tty filetypes. Edited by ThereIsNoCure |

First off, NEVER save pixel art as JPG. It ruins the quality drastically. Please save it as a gif or png first, then I will be able to provide you with some good crits

Right off the bat, I see you JPGed it. Don't do this. JPEG format features lossy compression, which means what we see is not what you drew.

"i dithered it on the new one, so it looks better" Although I can't see that since it's jpg'd, I can tell it's not gonna look to good since you dithered it. Sapphire's are gems inwhich they are shiny, never dither anything you want to look shiny. Edited by Nitram |

The edges that are closer to the viewer should be lighter, not the same color as the border.
Dithering is best for softening the details, with this being a jewel, you may want to dither a bit less to make it crispier. |

the limit angle of the spahire is low so when light reaches enters in it , it makes lot of refreaction in it untill its able to get out of the gem ,
so u should make one basic highligh , samaller highlights on the corners followed really black spaces with saturated spaces in the middle |

Leave Flammy alone, he's a real "gem" around here.
@Atomicrat12, Try bringing in som whites to add shine and sparckle. Check them all out since I couldn't quite fint the gemstone one, but its in there and really well written. I highly recommend these tutorials. http://www.tcp-ip.or.jp/~s-iga/tips/tips&tricks.html Atomicrat12 |

Gems are specifically cut to absorb and trap any light that passes through them and make said light bounce off each flat plane within them to make the gem become as close to its own infinite light source as possible (obviously light is lost since you can see it) and for this reason I strongly advise you to work on something less complex. Find something with a lightsource that's easier to follow (even metal is easier than cut gems) and comprehend and try learning from that. Because at your skill level (and at just about anyone else's) it's going to be difficult to make anything convincing and even if you do, you won't know why it is so and in turn learn nothing.

Flammy is a good guy he is like the low wolf that has to lay on it's back and let the top animal maul it. Perhaps add some hard shines to the facets now. |
