Hello all. I am a programmer looking to branch out so I can be able to develop my own original games. I just love creating things in general and I've always had an interest in pixel art.
I completely suck at it at the moment, and it'll probably take me a long while to get used to it, but I know it'll all be worth it in the end.
I started working on a smaller fighter sprite...I made a wire frame of it first and tried to work on it from there:
1) I wasn't sure how exactly to position his left arm since I didn't think it'd even be visible.
2) I have no clue on how to do his hands or his shoes at the moment. The shoes I didn't even want to start on because his back leg seems off to me.
3) The little square in the top right corner is the light source.
Edit: I tried to redo it and shift his body a little so I could draw the left arm. Not sure what to think of it (The hat definitely seems wrong):

I ended up scrapping the whole change of view idea and continued to work on the first sprite. I added his left arm and put his back foot flat on the ground. It looks a bit better now I think.
I also attempted to do a punching animation. I'll probably have to add an extra frame. I'm also not sure how to finish the hat on the last frame. I'll animate it later on today.
I know there probably is a lot to improve on, so toss any suggestions this way if you want. Edited by Legend Hoamaru - 12 August 2008 at 7:55am |

I started working on his running animation and have many questions. I read somewhere that it was best to start from the most extreme position, so thats what I did. I don't know why but it seems more like an image for jumping than running.
I'm quite stuck on whether I should make the animation 8 frames or a 4 frames. I'm still not even sure if the legs are right to begin with. Something just seems off and I can't figure out what it is.
I also started on a newer stance since fighting styles changes depending on the direction of the cap:
The legs, again, are off somehow. I'm not sure how to make them seem close together based off my original sprite's direction. I'm also guessing that I'll probably need to tip the hat back a little.

Are you using any references for the running animation?
To begin with the arms should be positioned oposite to the position of the legs, for instance; left leg goes front, left arm goes back.

I posted this on another thread but it might help you with the running animation.
