22 colours, not really worrying too much about colour count on this one.
Bigger concept art of her just in case.
Eventually I will have 4 (or maybe 8, 8 would be better, but twice as much work, literally, plus the diagonal views are much harder to draw and animate) directions done and animated, but I wanna get the base sprite done before worrying on the rest. One small step at a time. Plus, its the main character, which people will be looking at all the time, so its gotta be as good looking as possible.
Someone told me that it looks nothing like a girl and the hair looks like a beard... Would love some help with making her look girlier. (no, I'm not going to give her huge boobs).
EDIT1:
Some small changes suggested by skeddles. And I decided to remove the thing on her arm, since the player should be able to equip/unequip it.

Hey lucas, awesome character. I'm always a sucker for a girl with a scarf and goggles. Edit:
First is yours, second is a color edit, third had minor tweaks on it. Don't know what kind of theme or aesthetic you're going for in the game, but I like when the main character has a lot of pop

Thanks man. I dig that edit. Gonna try come come up with something new later today, gotta go take a shower and pick up dog poop right now. Maybe it will be better if I don't do it in this order, though.

cinch her at the hips to get an hourglass figure, rather than at the chest (which de-emphasizes a rather feminine feature) hourglass>pear
the shorter face/nose in NaCl's edit is a good move.

I don't know man, I'm not trying to make her look very feminine, she's supposed to be young and not to have such an attractive body. Gonna try it to see how it looks though.

edit of NaCl's edit:

edit of that edit:
felt maybe the contrast on the stripes was too strong and was hiding the body structure. couple other minor shifts as well

There you go. Tried to keep everything in mind, might've forgotten something.
Also down to 16 colours.

Minor edit on the front sprite and oh god I suck at side views. Its still quite WIPpy, no shading on the hair and I should've fixed some stuff before showing it... But I donno. I could use some help. Can't get the shading on the ponytail to look right no matter what. And the lock of hair... Friggin impossible to do right. >.>

ps: contrast contrast ^^;
as for the side view, I suck so I can't help.

Man I don't know, it just looks weird. In fact I just removed the two darker pixels that were on her chin.
Did change the colours slightly though.

Awesome, man, that helped a lot.
Gave me a really good idea of how the body is supposed to look.
Your hair looks much better than the one I did, but I'm trying to keep the same sizes on stuff as they were on the front view, which is a really pain. At times like this I wish I knew how to do 3d models. x]
EDIT: Some small edits.
Does this kind of nose works?

the bandanna still reads as a shiny helmet for me, due partially to its rendering but perhaps moreso to hos tall it is (this gull's got a big head!). I moved the toes out a bit because I think the feet should be longer from the side than they are from the front, and those little stubs don't look like they offer much balance/support. that nose is better, but the face still seems too flat to me. the rest of the crits don't warrant mentioning anymore, as you seemed to have absorbed them well enough in this latest edit.

I see.
Actually, I changed the fit to something closer to yours soon after I posted it, but didn't think it was worth uploading again. I will see if I can try to find a way to make the bandana more bandana like, still having a hard time with that. And her hair... Damn, I'm hating her hair right now.
Thanks for all the help man.

The bandana needs some wrinkles to look like cloth, and pull it down 1 pixel over her head.
Her boobs need to be 1 pixel lower, I'd move the pelvis forward too.
Get rid of the black outline under the foot, move the boot down (thus making the leg 1 pixel longer).

Dude. I love you. I was gonna say that I love you in a non homo way, but that was before that bandana edit. Totally gay for you right now.
EDIT:
very small fixes

Tried a back pose. Feel free to point out my mistakes.
Going to be doing the ponytail on a different layer, probably. So it won't be too difficult to animate.

The scarf is blue right now instead of purple. And you'll want to define the ass and the curve of the back by having a bit of drop shadow.
And you'll want to try to get the wrinkles in the bandana somewhat slanted instead of straight vertical lines, and give it a more rounded shading.
Thinning her legs 1 pixel at the knees(in all 3 view) will make her more feminine and less chunky and I'd pull the legs back in the sideview to get rid of the straight line.

Oh yeah, I fixed the ass (think so)but didn't post. Will try the other tips. As for the wrinkles, I failed quite hard at making them rounder so I just decided to go with horizontal (not vertical) lines.

I think the legs look better as far as the proportions and stuff go but I think I ruined the pixel art part of it. They look pretty bad.

Well they don't need to be symmetrical, or brought together like a soldiers. Break them up a bit, especially in the side view. There is a perfectly straight line from her neck to her boots, and straight lines are

I don't know, http://http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/50740.htm - I http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/51638.htm - like http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/53757.htm - straight http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/54785.htm - lines . But maybe thats just me. :P
But yeah, I get what you mean, I just don't know how to fix it. :/
Can't really see why the back and front can't be symmetrical, considering I'm gonna have to animate them, though making her back not straight is probably a good idea. Just don't know how to do it. X)

I'm sure once its animated it will be clear that she is a girl. Maybe add some girly idle animations for good measure.
