So I'm working on an indie game (If you could really call it indie).  It's a vertical shmup that's been in development for about a month or so. I've got a good portion of the level/game design planned out and I've started working on sprites.

This is your starter ship, the Corvus. I could really use some C&C for this so it looks more... well, so it pops out more, like in most shmups. If you know what I mean. EDIT: I changed the bottom now.

This is a small 16x16 explosion... C&C would be nice. This is the final version. Note that I have changed the palette.

The ship looks good, but whatever that pointed shiny thing is on the back is bothering me. It makes it look like it has a second windshield. More contrast probably wouldn't hurt either.

Also, the explosion looks more like a growing and shrinking orange blob. Fire burns stuff fast. It should explode quickly, turning black as it's consumed in it's own smoke and dissipate.

Yeah. The animation on the explosion is a bit slow, but I can speed it up in-game. I'll work some more on it. As for the ship... I'm not too sure about that thing either. I think I'll try making an extra engine or something there instead. Thanks.

I think the explosion is fine until it reaches the point where it shrinks, try having it slowly burn up into smoke at the top instead of just shrinking.

The explosion looks like a cancer. Make the end first then shrink it to nothing then reverse the animations.

Ok, I've gone and tried the explosion again...

The animation might run a bit slow, but is this any better?

Adding in the 'burnout' areas was definitely a step in the right direction, but it still feels confined.

I know you have a size limit for this, but perhaps if you can make it explode in all directions instead of 'blooming' as it is now, it might work better.

Ok, you mean having the lightsource sort of on-top or exploding out into all directions, right? I could try that.

I love them!!  They're so tiny and sweet.

Is that what you wanted to hear?! LOL.  I guess they aren't supposed to be sweet

You've done a great job.  On the updated explosion, perhaps make it pause before starting up again? :)  I think that would add a lovely affect to it.   Great job!!  You're very talented,MotD.

Huh. Thanks :p

Most likely in-game, they won't be happening more than once, except for bosses...and even then, it would apear on different sections of the ship.

I'm going to do some work on bigger explosions for bosses, or just larger ships now.

Sorry Silly me didnt realize and forgot that mostly game makers go to forums now  XD  I thought they were just a fun little project, like I do.

Sorry about that.     Still, my favorite is the newest explosion.  It is so greatly detailed, I'm loving it
