Hi all,
I'm totally fresh and new here. Looking for some comments and critics to improve my "art".
I never really got into pixel art, and this is my first serious attempt. In my spare time I am working on some space shooter game. The idea for the art is to keep it very dark. I want to define the shapes/contours using reflections of in game FX (like the beam from the engines).
Tell me what you think. Shoot!

Welcome to Pj.
I like your Idea, but really, it's too dark. Light it more, if it's metal it shines, so try an really high contrast.
Will you use "in game" light sources?

Hi, Daruda and thanks!
I am considering using "in game" light sources, something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tYfZOMSyL8 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tYfZOMSyL8
Combined with an overlay on top of the pixel art. Like the reflection from the engines.
I guess you are right about the contrast, The thing is, the background probable won't be completely black. So I am shifting that too.

It's better like this.
If you're not sure about the background, it's standard to use a gray one, both for readability and easing your eyes :D
From where will the ship shoot? The two things in the fronts seems somehow motors. If it's from them, you may want to try a more "dangerous" design.

EDIT: You should edit a little the reflections. They seems a little off in the front.
