I'm looking for feedback on some game art. It's a versus game, which is the reason for how the palette is set up. Primarily at this point, I'm looking for feedback on the palette, general character design, and general layout of the stage. (Recommended 2x view for 720p, or 3x for 1080p)

This is the base palette, along with with color variations for characters, along with a color analysis from dawnbringer's plugin (though I must admit little comprehension of how to use it beyond finding ramps).
The palette is split into red and blue to quickly denote opposite teams. The green ramp is for backgrounds.

The light blue/red ramps are for energy type things, and the darker ramps are for solid type things, though the light and dark ramps can be used together to make other ramps.
The stage layout is wide open, because a primary mechanic has one player filling the stage with blocks. Aside from that requirement, I also need to convey a lot of info to the players, and so the hud ends up a bit cramped. Also, taking any suggestions on what to replace the bricks with. I'm trying to go for a "cyberspace" feel.
Currently, I'm trying to finish an alpha build to release for testing/marketing, so 4-player is far out, but I'm trying to plan the final design/art direction before coding.
Again, I'm looking for feedback on the palette, general character design, and general layout of the stage, so any opinions/crits are welcome.
 Old gameplay/art style gif.
