Trying to work on some personal stuff again.  It seems like forever since I have!  This was made to get back in the pixel-groove.

(oldest <-----> Newest)

10 colors

I'm sure there are things that can be improved.  The only reason why I post it now is because I had a goal to finish and post it tonight.  It may not be entirely finished, but its 5am, there's work tomorrow, and I'm sick of looking at the fetching thing, so have at it.

-Dan

Edit:
1. Fudged around with the colors a bit and upped the contrast before hitting the sack.

2. Fixed some lighting issues, reduced some line-definition in the muscles, added the fourth finger to the hand, fixed weight/balance issue, fudged the palette a bit, and made backpack to be more 'tank-like' rather than 'rock'

One tiny nitpick, the way the 4th finger on its right hand is shown can be seen as one hand has 3 fingers, one has 4. I see the knuckle of the 4th but...
maybe the very tip between the other 2 fingers?

Love it, especially the expression on the eyes.

I can't think of a single nitpicky thing, but I had to post just the same to say.
Oh. My. Gawd that's gorgeous!

Ten colors? Come on. You've got to be pulling my leg. Please tell me your pulling my leg.
This is masterful! I love the detail of the muscles and the shading/highlighting is just amazing.

The third one definitely took some character away from the piece.. I loved that highlight going straight down the abdomen/crotch for example, which you took away!

This piece is unbelievable though. You're really, really good with muscle anatomy ;)

Phaedra:  hehe, thanks man.  No leg pullin' here, just 10 colors plus background.  The palette i'm using with extreme hue shifts give the illusion of more depth.  If you look at an older version of this guy, you'll see its far less impressive in this area...

Ceddo:  I truly agree with you about the abdomen/crotch area.  People on another forum were complaining about the area so I was playing around with it, and in the process lost some character.  I'll probably slap that part back in.

Thanks guys
-Dan

One thing.... the tanks on his back don't look smooth.

I'd say just chamfer a pixel or two of the corner of the previous crotch shade block so it isn't so sharp.

The new finger looks to need a knuckle.

Anyways this is already godlike.

It is a shame the Bitmap Brothers were not still around doing bitmap games. Your work would have been a perfect match for games like "The Chaos engine". In fact, depending on size of the sprites, your work may have improved the look of that game.

The palette tweaks mean little. The first is as good as the third because games/scenes can have any sort of mood lighting. The abdomen is a little off, but it is minor. The lower abdomen crease slips down a little too far on the viewers right. Fix that, and it should work. I know, it probably slips because of shadow correctly applied, but sometimes you need to break the rules in smaller areas to make the whole "pop" (I hate this word, but it is about the most descriptive term in this situation).

Very nice job on this. Great use of pallete.

I think you blended better in the first one, but the last is much more vibrant and anatomically correct.

Nice job.
