I did this template for a game, but I dont think the animation is very smooth you know. Any of you would have any ideas of how to improve it?

Just ignore the last two images on that picture btw.

make something more elaborate than moving part of the image diagonally. it looks as unnatural as possible at this moment, not to mention is truly boring and lacks effort. don't be afraid and experiment with something more sophisticated. you don't need to make a movie, just put more guts into it.

any background/context for the template?

I just dont know what I could do. Like, I already thought of moving the legs a bit and stuffs but it just does not looks good when I do it. I am not very good at spriting to be honest.

And not really. I am doing this for a rpg, but at the moment there are not much stuffs done, they just told me the right sizes and angle and asked me to do it.

Don't worry about being a bad spriter! Just about everybody was terrible when they started out. Including me! But I've progressed.

Show us what you have already so we can crit please :) But for now just look at yourself in your characters stance in a mirror and try to match the movements into your peice.

Ok, when you idle, did your feet come closer together? When I did, no such thing happened. I shifted my weight from each lag to the other, my arms bouncing as well.

A bit more explanation on what exact idle stance he is doing... is he in battle (i assume this is it)? Is he just facing forward, perhaps looking at something? Is he stressed, excited, or bored? Elaborate so we can help you better :)

I think he is in battle, facing the enemy, and thats all I know. Like, I wish I could know more but I dont, sorry =\

You basically explained it with that, Lucas. It's supposed to be a basic idle pose for an RPG.
I know almost nothing about animation but I'd try practicing some kind of idle pose in a mirror, then basing your animation off of what you saw.

It looks like you are trying to show him in a typical fighter stance.  If thats the case, then it could be that youre trying to give him a typical fighter animation, which is somewhat like he's breathing real hard.   Typically, this involves raising of the shoulders and head and slightly bowing out of the arms.

There are different ways you can go about it.
