Well, this is my first attempt at pixel art.
I am stuck on the hair and the outline is troubling me a bit. Reference: http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f71/ilikeshinystuff/mypixelz/ohnoo.jpg] I accidentally made the expression a little angrier in the piece, but I stuck with it anyway. I know it is pretty terrible right now, but that's why I'm posting -- any crits or advice would be greatly appreciated. ![]() |

You seem to be going in the right direction all by yourself.
I would venture that you are the type that will figure it out for yourself. Check others work for solutions to answers. On this, for now, I would advice against using dithering and go with more cell shading type of coloring. Sometimes dithering looks more like an illness than flesh. Don't fear high contrast in your color choices. |

Thanks for your help, I decided to try what you suggested and I definitely like my second attempt better. You're right, I've been referring to others' work for the most part. Anyway, here's what I have so far:
Oh, and here is how the other one turned out: ![]() |

I like it without the dithering.
See this for not only an effectively simple hair technique, but also for overall creativity in dynamic coloring a portrait. http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/28262.htm# |
