Hi guys, this is my first attempt at non-iso pixel art so I really need feedback on my current WIP project.

I tried applying traditional coloring techniques to my artwork below, but it turns out that pixel art needs a little more technique in order for it to look good.

I've only recently found out about manual anti-aliasing so you could see that I am struggling on how to eliminate the jagged outlines.

Could you guys perhaps direct me to a tutorial that teaches how to correctly color and anti-alias pixel art so I could improve more? Or you could give your comments and crits.

Thanks a lot! I'm loving this place, btw!

Hey Namre, looking pretty good.

Firstly, here is the best AA tutorial I have found:
http://gas13.ru/v3/tutorials/handmade_antialiasing.php

Now for some actual critique:

- The ear is placed wrong. The distance from the inside corner of the eye to the chin should be the same as the distance from the outside corner of the eye to the back of the ear. Maybe a bit less because of the angle. I'd also raise it up a smidgen.

- I believe that the back of the head needs to be larger. Vertically it is OK, but it does not appear to be wide enough (that is, from the face to the back of the head).

Here is a picture of a guy in roughly the same angle as your own:

- The nose looks like it is pointing to his right too much. Foreshorten and shade differently.

- I do not like the mouth! I would add some shading for the mouth as it looks too symbolic right now.

The hair on the chin is pretty good. I like it. Also, the shading on the shirt looks quite good. So overall it's a pretty good piece, just a few anatomy nitpicks.

Hi, thanks for the comments NaCl.

Now that you mentioned it, the ear really kinda looks misplaced. I guess I'll go reposition it.

As for the mouth, I like it the way it is. Kinda like an anime-ish style. How does it look too symbolic?

Thanks for your comments! much appreciated!

By symbolic I meant you were not representing it with any shadows, just the one line. I quickly made a mouth to show what I mean. Yours is Anime style I guess, but I always thought they drew it in that fashion because they were animating it and needed ways to save time.

Oh, now I get what you're trying to say. But yeah, I'm trying to go anime-style with this one, so the mouth is really represented with just that line.

Thanks for your input though. Very much appreciated.

take into consideration that when you draw character in an anime-ish style you use lines of diverse thickness because you use ink pencils.
