Alright, before i start I want you to know that I have a macintosh
ibook g4. i also want you to know that I am completely and totally
broke. To make a long story short, i would like to know if there is a
free pixel graphics application for macintosh. That's it. In the
meantime ill try to townload GIMP.
::edit:: the gimp didn't work out. ::edit:: nevermind, i found a free application called "pixen" which is working out. For anyone else here's a link: http://www.opensword.com/pixen Edited by anonymousL |

You could just use Photoshop and Image Ready...

Filax: He plainly said "free pixel graphics", Photoshop costs hundreds of dollars. Read posts before you reply, please.

In my travels I came across this site, which claims to offer a free Mac pixel app:
http://www.opensword.org/Pixen/ I haven't tried it, I make no claims about its suitability, but there it is. |

I shouldn't be here.

I use pixen, its a great programm, but with the standard edition you
can't make animations, but there is a beta from the next version and you can do it with that one. but it crashes a lot (I think it's my cpu 700 mhz). I can really recommend that one ![]() Edited by ganondorg |

Try gimp, it's very powerfull.
Some hints: - Use the PENCIL, it draws exact pixels - when you are working on an image, from the view menu: - select new view - uncheck all checkmarks (ie no menu, nu grid, no guides, etc.. maybe you can leave the scrollbar if you are working on a bigger image) And voili ;-) Happy pixeling, and let's see some result here! :-D |

Pixen has a really good
standin point. It's nice and simple for anyone that hasn't yet got used to Photoshop and it has all the basic functions a pixel artist need. But there are problems in the coding. Pixen crashes a lot, the palettes have bugs, tools have bugs, and canvases aren't "infinite" - meaning, you can't drag something out of the main area and drag it back as a whole (what ever went over gets chunked off). The layers are buggy and tools don't have specified cursors - something that will most probably be fixed in the future, but would be kinda relevant to have in the builds that excist already. But anyhow, Pixen is worth giving a try and it's worth giving the Open Sword team feedback, they actually do listen :) |
