So, my friend told me to NEVER EVER EVER (etc.) pillow shade. The problem is: What is pillow shading? My first pixel is this one:

Pillowshading. It is a weird technique, often learned from others who do not know any better, that comes down to dark colors on the outside, light colors on the inside.
On your sprite it is not much of a problem, only the face is a bit like it. Why it is bad? See for yourself. Compare and decide ![]() |

Well of course, light is not shaded. Light is light it self!

what he means is that when you have a lightbulb for example and you have to apply light sources, you should then study a real life reference and see how it reacts to the light it emits. depending on the material, its density and the actual shape of the object, the light may or may not cast a small, subtle "shadow"(wich in fact is not a shadow but a more powerful highligth).
