First shot - Cheesy Demon head on toast

RECIPE:

1 medium sized demon head, removed from neck.

1 lb. aged cheddar cheese, shredded

1 tsp. butter

1/4 cup whole milk

1 piece white bread

Toast the bread and butter liberally.
In a saucepan, mix shredded cheese and milk and melt over medium-low heat until consistent.
In a pre-greased 8x9 cake pan, roast the demon head for one hour at 450' F.  Check for doneness with a toothpick.
Place demon head on toast and cover with cheese sauce.
Serve hot and enjoy!

Updated to look like one of the old recipe cards my mom used to collect:

the head kinda looks like it's balancing on the teeth, it should probably be angled towards the back a little more. i really like the card format though

Please stop using dithering, and start thinking about the actual shape of things, so you know how light would be reflected. Oh, and THINK ABOUT YOUR COLORS!

Here is a quick edit where I drew over with bigger brushes.

"I" before "E" :þ (peice of bread)

You're only using 3 shades on the main part of the demon's head, the eyes would be shrunk further into the skull as it's presumably dead so there wouldn't be as many shadows under the eyes as from the horns we can tell the light's coming fromabove.

EDIT: This is what I meant, cba finishing. The teeth could also do with some definition from the cheese.

Wow, those are some amazing edits... makes me cringe when I look at my original.  Here's what I've done -

Okay, I've ditched almost all of the the dithering - not because dithering is bad it's just that next to Jeremys edit my dithering just wasn't in the same league and I'm not proficient enough to fix it at this point.
I've fixed the spelling (how embarassing).
I've also added a neck... who removes the neck and jaw when cooking?  It looked stupid IMO.
I've also added two more shades to the main head and removed the eyes as they were distracting.  The nose area is left flat as I'd originally intended it to be just two breathing holes like on a skull and not an actual nose.

Thanks for the suggestions and for taking the time to make edits, it's really appreciated.  I only hope that my re-edit shows that I'm listening and trying to improve.

Lol! I overdither horribly xD, bad habit which you should try to avoid :D

That demon atm looks like it'd get bullied by all the other demons for being bright cyan in colour, could use a little desaturisation and hue shiftage. If you work on the teeth a bit more to make them pearlescent (Which they semi-do atm) it'd look otherworldlyly cool :D

Well, the dithering on your pieces seems to work, I'm envious.

I was going to do a typical red-ish demon but found a saved pallete I'd done and not wanting to be sterotypical and being lazy got together and voila, cyan demon.  Hue shifting is, like dithering and AA, something at which I've not yet gotten decent.  I've read the tutorials but, like everything, it takes doing it to really figure out what you're doing.  I'll play with the teeth and see what I can do.  Thanks for all the help! :)

Basically, some colours look lighter than others (even when of the same saturation & value), i.e. blue and yellow, so if you want your demon to look cyan (Saturated, bright teal) you'd go further towards puple for shadows and further towards yellow for highlights. Your colours are still quite saturated and there are a sh*tload of them (single pixels, be sure to clean them up)
The first pic is a straight colour swap, the second me going crazy xD

(By the way, I reckon my pixeling ability has improved immensely through editing others' stuff- thanks!)

Well, for better or worse I ditched the entire color scheme of the head and went with my first instinct choice of red-ish.  To be honest, I'm not all that happy with it but I'm out of time so I'm posting it and chalking this up to a lesson learned in hue shifting (whether or not I was successful).

Even though it's a "demon skull", i'd think the same proportions etc would apply.

Your colors are all way to saturated on the last one. Use lower saturation for darker colors! Also, again, stop the dithering!
Youll do much better without for the next 2 years!

I agree, the colors are all weird - I'm still working on building decent palettes so hopefully I'll get the hang of it soon.

Is it dithering in general that you hate or just my dithering?  I had it without, originally, but the transitions between colors was too jarring and I didn't want to just start throwing more colors in there as I was already at 27 and it seemed to be getting out of control.

It was a conscious choice to have a non-proportionate skull for this piece, I wanted it to be skull-ish but not human in any way.  I could have gone with an anatomically correct skull but it wouldn't have been as "demon" or as cartoonish as I was trying to get.  Thanks for the link though, really nice sketches - reminds me of my skeletal analysis textbook from college (I was in charge of skeletal identification at the museum at university senior year).
