Hi there. I'm very new to pixel art (about 3 months new) and am looking to get some info. Right now my friends and I are working on a video game project. I have the monsters. The game is done in a vector style of art, but the monsters take on a more "old?" pixelated look (think SNES style, sort of). Basically I need them to look like they're 24bits (or something similar) while actually making them 150bits and larger so they can stand out on the 1k+ rez screen. I have achieved this by making a 6px block in photoshop and using it as my 'pixel' to build with, but its really tricky to use as it doesn't always line up right and there's a lot of backtracking to fix small mistakes I didn't catch until later. We tried simply making a smaller monster bigger with scaling and whatnot, but it ends up messing the animation up and the pixels don't hold their 'shape' as well when it comes to the resizing, so we decided working bigger would have to be done. So this morning my friend sent me mtpaint and graphicsgale to see if those would help. So far I haven't found the erase button and can't figure out how to bring back my large 'pixel'. I figured I'd go to you guys for help. How can I make these larger monsters with a larger 'pixel' on these new programs? If any of this makes no sense, please ask and I'll explain, but I think this post explains well. I want to learn how to use these pixel art programs, but I'm not sure I can, right now, with what I'm trying to do. Thanks for any help in advance ^__^ Edited by skittles.loli - 10 June 2009 at 9:33am | |

I'm a newbie, but a quick and dirty way i always use when making "big" pixel art, is to open it in ms paint, zoom to 2x 6x or 8x depending on the zoom level i want, then just print screen, CTRL+V and zoom out again.
