Pixel Joint Forum: Greek Gods in Cognito

   I have been reading the Percy Jackson books to my students and wondered if we could start a little section where we illustrated what the gods looked like today - here's the idea: 

Either a full length version or a bust of a greek god/goddess/monster
Unlimitted palette ; Unlimitted size ; BUT
ONE half must show the classical greek god version and the other half the modern disguise.

As an example:  Poseidon (god of the sea) is usually depicted carrying a trident and sporting a nice set of fins - in the modern day version he wears a multicoloured hawwaiian shirt and sunglasses - black hair, no beard...hiding among the masses of Manhatten Island!

So anyone who is interested...lets see what we can come up with!

	So we can make up the god's modern disguise?? I'm gonna assume that's what you are talking about. I will make... Calydonian Boar :: ~Old SKoollll~ The huge boar sent by Artemis to ravage the land of Clydon due to the kings refusal to include her in his annual offerings. ~Nowss a day~ The great boar was never killed by Meleager and managed to take refuge as the Genis book of world records largest pig. 	I like the look in its eye! Can't wait to see the record breaking porker! I'm working on Prometheus- old: chained to a rock by Zeus after stealing fire; Modern: Sitting at a desk working on an audit or something!

	Cool. Maybe you should make the fur on the boar a bit darker. Maybe a larger tusk or something. There's not enough 'contrast' between the old half and the new half. But maybe its just me.

	Great. Maybe you could make a forest for BG on the old one, and then some sort of farm on the new one?

	I like the idea of an old-school classic buildings bg - like the one in your challenge piece with the dragon? That'll look great - but instead of a farm for the porker on the right, why don't you put in red, white and blue rosettes and banners like at those Texan livestock auctions?

	Here's my first WIP - only a 10sec line sketch of concept. Changed my mind - Ares sounded way more cool. Ancient Greek left - armour, spear, Olympus in bg with battlefield + his chariot with Phobos next to it and then modern version: Johnny Bravo-look-alike on golf course, golf club, caddie and golf car in bg...will update in a bit with more details.... There will be less hair on the old school one to mak mor room for bg elements.

	Really like this idea... brainstorming my contribution.. I am mor familiar with Egyptian Mythology though. Pieces are coming along nice.

	I love this idea! Hade is such a cool character to create - dark and mysterious contrasted by everyday guy in park - briliant - can't wait to see the result!

	@NLTO Well, to balance out the sun disc on the left there needs to be a counter on the right like mayby an excessive hair-do or decorative hat or an image in her background like...you know those old ladies who like to serve tea...they normally have plates on their walls...why not look at something like that? I love the idea!!!!!! Haven't had time to work on mine - was in PARIS for the first time!!!! So I'm still gliding back to earth :) Edited by Celri - 23 July 2009 at 10:07am

	That's awesome! Great job. I love how you managed to add Cerberus in there. Only thing I think that could be changed is his right, our left, hand. Looks a bit weird.

	Yeah, that hand was bugging me too but I wasn't sure how to make it look correct...I had to take a picture of my hand and used that for reference.

	HOw about hiding her behind a nude "Ugly Betty" or "Goth-Girl" disguise? Something constrasting the beauty of the ancient image with the tarnished and slightly jaded modern age?
