I realize the shading of this perticular image is pretty bad. Yet, that's what I need help with the most, can any one give me good advice on how to color this?

he main problem with your sword is that it lacks contrast, meaning you have colors that are too similar to each other.  Also, your sword does not have a definite light source.
In my my edit I removed unnecessary colors and set the light source to the top left, giving the sword a little more depth.
