bullet Topic: Clarification, please?
    Posted: 08 October 2005 at 12:35am

I'm new to Pixel Joint and frankly on joined here because it's required for the Pixelween contest since I don't do much pixel art. I got a not approved message for my submission for the contest that says "REASON: Pixel Joint is sorry to inform you that your submission does not meet our quality standards or the art needs revision for some miscellaneous reason. "

That's not real helpful to me in making things right to get this submission through for the contest. I realize I totally suck at pixel art. I usually limit it to dolls and goofy icons for my computer for that reason. So can I get a clarification on whether it just stinks on ice too much for your site or what needs revising, please?

Sheesh! I wouldn't have bothered if I'd have known there was a "quality standard" my goofing around would have to adhere to.  But I spent time on this and would like to get it into the contest at least.

It was stated in the rules that Quality DOES matter. Not everything submitted to PJ will be approved. There is a WIP (Work in Progress) section in this forum for a reason. Post your work up and get some feedback.

"It may be 32 colours but it's not pixel art in my eyes. Please read up on how to make pixel art through various tutorials and links found all over this site and pixeljoint."

that is what I wrote on your piece at dA. The reason I found it to be not pixel art is that is completely looks like you took a still from the movie, resized it, and lowered the colours to suit your needs. Pixel art is a science in a way, in which you place pixels with a clear image in mind of where to put them. Nothing is random in pixel art. If you need further assistance, I again stress the use of the WIP forums here as well as feedback from peeps at dA.

I hope this makes it clear enough for you. If you have any further questions, please feel free to pm me

No, actually, I used a still from the movie for reference and constructed it in two pieces as noted in the description of it. If you take a peek at some of the work in my DA gallery, you'll see I often use reference such as stock photos for my art. My pieces are quite a lot more than just cobbled together cut-outs of those images and far from being photomanipulations, though. They are digital paintings and I'm fairly adept at reproducing what I can see if not so good at bringing the visions in my head to life all the time. I'm actually a little offended, but won't hold it against you since you obviously don't know anything about me or my art and I am admittedly no good at pixel art. (which is why I only enetered the contest on a lark anyway.)

fair enough. I still suggest placing it in a WIP thread here and see what others have to say about it. I have my opinions and my thoughts that I've already made clear on it and, as an experienced pixel artist (but far from being a pro at it... but far from being a noob), I stand by by words even though you are easily offended by something that was not meant to offend but, rather, to educate.

Again, post your pixels in a thread.

'nuff said.. this thread is closed
