When I'm working with a piece, I'll just take the image and flip it horizontally. It makes it seem like I didn't just make it and helps me find flaws on my own.

Does anyone else do this?

I know it's very helpful for me. :)

I do that a lot, particularly with portraits. Very helpful to be able to see it for the first time all over again. And by helpful I mean soul-crushing, because all of the flaws become glaringly obvious.

Tried it, and found out that I've left the palette in the picture that I already submitted in the gallery. :D

Awesomeness! Hope I can help some people help themselves, then. :D

My CMAT (computer graphics class) teacher was the one who taught me this! Guess it's just something people pass along? :D

Yes, it's very useful. I also do a similar technique with music; I play back what I've made so far at a slightly slower/faster speed so the pitch is different.

I should do this more often.  Seriously get it into my system to do so.

I was looking at optical illusions yesterday and found this: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1028411/mona_lisa_optical_illusion/

While the purpose of the vid is to wow people, for us it's a pretty good example of how flipping an image can help us find mistakes and things that aren't right.
