Hello, I'm a fairly new spriter and pixel artist and I have joined this forum in hope for some help, so I can become a better artist. Anyway, this thread is about that I will post different images. And you will hpoefully  comment. Here's the first.

I need really much help with drawing humans. This is my best work so far ( I havn't shaded it )

Edit : Oops forgot feets :)

Looping :

So, before I start to shade and everything, I really need help on the proporations and possibly an outline.

@3

Here's a WIP hotel, wich might be a part of a city.

As you can see it's not done yet. I havn't shaded it complely, not added textures and such. As with the human I want to get it right, so tell me what you think.

Without specifically trying to sound harsh - from first glance it just looks like an abusation of the spray can in mspaint.

Evidently it's a grass tile, but you should try to define more specific blades of grass rather than just scattering shades of green.

That's how Ive always done, I usually use the spray can. But I didn't this time. I'll make some specific blades as you said. Then I'll repost it. Thank you for your tips.

edit :

Is this any better?

Oh, ok. If you are better than me at doing them, can you try to make a step on a progress of making one? Since I'm trying to learn it would really help me.

Theres really not much point in me trying because it'll most likely turn out worse than yours. Just try to suggest more individual blades, and some 2 or 3 pixel long lines rather than just single pixels. And imo 8 colours is way too much for a grass tile.

Ok. I'm also gonna put up an unshaded human now. I'm really bad at drawing human - like stuff. So I really need help on proporations and outlines.

You have way too much colours. I counted 7 colours, and i don't think you need 7 colours. Also, your palette has too many colours that look alike.

Personally i don't find iso stuff too difficult as long as you stick to the lines, So you shouldn't have too much trouble making your own stuff. I personally began with iso stuff :) (i was a habbo nerd)

He's very blockish and clumpy. also, you shouldn't be able to see so much of the leg nearest the back. His head is more oblong than oval, fix that. Human heads can generally be made up of 2 circles. A large on top of a smaller, like so.

as far as your actual sprite goes, something like this would be a step in the right direction.

Thank you, it looks better from your lines. I'll try to edit into something similar. After that I'll try to make a brand new human.

Is this any better?

I just can't get it right..

If you really want to get better at pixeling, you'll need to learn how to draw. Here's a great book for it: http://www.drawright.com/

He's right. Getting your style down on paper certainly makes it much easier at pixel size.

I can draw, well let's say moderate with a pen. But I don't have a scaner so It takes more time than it should do. But I'll test it.

Everyone CAN draw. The point is that you need to master some basic fundamentals best learned through drawing before trying to apply those same concepts to a more difficult medium.

I'm not sure what's growing out of his chest, the feet are gigantic, head is shaped odd and seems to melt into the chest, feet should not point in same direction, black outlines aren't helping, colors are too saturated, etc

You dont need drawing tablet to draw, many people can do wonderous things in MS paint it just takes practice, you must overcome yourself in order to advance and somebody must teach you drawing basics or such, otherwise it will take you very long to learn them or worse never learning them. Heck I last drawned something with pencil when I was about...6-8 just practice.

Lets get down to buisness.

For humans...try looking some tutorials, there should be some excellent here at pixeljoint, I found one where it made drawing a figure 10x easier than before, cant remember wich it was , but the idea was start with basic stick figure, adjust the pose, add limb points, than shape those sticks into body, add muscles than finishing touches, until you got a human body nice and easy, its just like building something, you start from bones, to muscles, till skin try it, mainly study human anatomy there isnt any way around, it just takes time and if you are hopeless there are always references
. For digital painting you can use they "technique" if it can be called like that, I use... you know how those artists draw those short lines many times again and again until it looks like they want it, than do it, just take pencil tool and copy it is still pixel art, I hope, and a good way to "paint" from start dont worry if you have an idea of cool looking swordsman and it ends up as hentai...just experiment

For that grass... I found another neat tutorial on it, just google it, dont be afraid using tutorials, they just make the experimenting phase a lot shorter thus you will learn more in shorter time. The tutorial was simple way of creating grass, well to make it really short, look outside how grass looks like you can see that there is one piece of grass on another and on another so copy it, how they overlay themselfs, pick 3-4 colours from dark to bright, choose background from the middle colour and start from the darkest, try to draw pieces of grass chaotically, no order chaos, grass is never in perfect row unless its some garden well, it still wont be narrow so lets continue, now you should have first layer, than chose brighter colour and repeat the process than choose even brighter colour and repeat process and voila you have easy grass, you can add some empty places, more grass, special flowers from it etc. etc. than if you are an masochist to make it better shade every piece of grass .

I hope I helped you, though Im not any good at pixelling, just giving some experience wich I learned during study and dont make the same mistakes as me, such as afraid of contrast, choosing boring colours, not reading tutorials etc. etc. Glad to help.

I would tone down the brightest highlight a tad bit, enough to where it won't compete for attention with foreground objects.
