===================================================== ****** READ ME FIRST ****** This thread is based on Pre-made Engines and Game Creation Programs. All hotlinks in this thread lead to pages where the files are stored, etc. The sites I selected contain the files necessary that you need in order to install the programs. For everything else you'll have to visit communities that specialize in those programs. Links for some communities will be listed below. For further help, you will have to drop by some of those Rpgmaker / Mugen / OpenBoR / Game maker communities, since they usually have a lot of documentation on the programs, tutorials and such. I know there are about 4 trillion programs out there to develop games, I will not include them all, only some of them (mostly the ones I've used actually)... if you want to try other programs out there aside from these ones, try google. If you have any programs you would like to suggest, do so in a comment or something... be helpful. Please don't complain with stuff like "hey you forgot to include this and that", etc... whatever you don't see in this list that you think might be worth for others taking a look, then go ahead and share it. Well, let's start with the links for downloading the programs and a short description... ===================================================== -Programs to make all types of RPGs- RPGMAKER 2003 1.08 English version (abandonware): http://www.crankeye.com/index.php?page=downloads rpgmaker 2003 tutorials here: http://rmrk.net/index.php?board=124.0 RPGMAKER XP 1.02a ENG Trial (it lasts 30 days, you must buy license afterwards) http://www.crankeye.com/index.php?page=downloads rpgmaker XP tutorials here: http://mxp.tigerseye.uk.com/ RPGMAKER VX 1.02a ENG Trial (it lasts 30 days, you must buy license afterwards) http://www.crankeye.com/index.php?page=downloads rpgmaker VX tutorials here: http://rpgmakervx.wikia.com/wiki/The_Official_Unofficial_FAQ/Bible __________________________________________________________ -Programs to make all types of Fighting games- WinMugen last version (free): http://www.mediafire.com/?iayymyxmznd Mugen tutorials here: http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=41715.0 2D Fighter Maker ENG version (free): *note* you need to download the first 2 .zip files and the 3rd zip is the .hlp http://www.mediafire.com/?wdjj3wyhnnn (program) http://www.mediafire.com/?mg2duiwjyji (RTP) http://www.mediafire.com/?uzxmtey5m2o (help files) __________________________________________________________ -Programs to make platform games, FPS and other type of games- Game Maker 7 lite (free): http://www.yoyogames.com/gamemaker Game maker tutorials here: http://www.yoyogames.com/make/tutorials/ Indie Game Maker "IG Maker" (30 day trial): http://www.indiegamemaker.net/index.php?page=downloads *Note* Tutorials and other important information found in the same link, browse around the site. __________________________________________________________ -Programs to make beat em up games - OpenBOR (beats of rage engine): http://lavalit.com:8080/ *note* OpenBOR is completely different than any of the makers shared here, you have to download a blank MOD (game) and build your game from there, also you'll have to deffinitely study the manuals before you can have any idea on how to create a MOD with it. The link I gave you'll have to register to be able to download the blank MOD and to get other utilities... also over there you have to find the manuals which is not hard. __________________________________________________________ Some sample videos of games made with the programs: ...videos of games in rpgmaker 2003: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eT5ESL95oNw&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msUqw3Scluw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oeg8GBhc0tA&feature=related ...videos of games in rpgmaker XP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzOlloh00Vw&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0s2uzhMXw-M&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUDBs4qK3XE&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Mx2peyPkzY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0NDt_gvJ-E&feature=related ...videos of games in rpgmaker vx: (mostly script tests) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWO8B54BLeI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjuoL-1syH8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AunZVk2rYk&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fri8Q2krKE ...videos of games made in Mugen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6KCSmyWdbY (card sagas wars) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPNZw_ikgMA (saint seiya fangame) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WIkQ_fsJwU (castlevania fangame) ...videos of games made in 2D Fighter Maker 2002: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXwnSjtsD-g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1ivJ4yKiwQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayEsBARR3Z0 ...videos of games made in Game Maker: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qux19iraLu8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv1Mr7K6m9o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1_au635bPU&feature=related ...videos of games made in Indie Game Maker: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zzXfuqN3ck http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqAC9Fc20G4 ...videos of games made in OpenBOR: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iI2ZcchUglw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iA0fWpJ5PHs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-onWsY-qeS8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQBYPpPgIZM __________________________________________________________ Edited by Antifarea - 30 August 2009 at 4:56pm |

@ Kittenmaster = Cool.
By the way, I replaced the links with a section of crankeye rpgmaker forums that way the downloads are available without having to register in any of those sites... I am currently uploading winmugen, 2D fighter maker and the rest of the files that the sites require you to register to download them, so give me about an hour or two to update the thread and provide those files through mediafire.com :D |

RPG Maker 2003 isn't free. You've linked to a pirated copy.

RPG Maker 2003 is not abandonware, I think. It was never released in English, and the english version that everyone has and you can find in pretty much any site is an illegal translation of the japanese one.
I am also pretty sure the one in Crankeye has a virus. It had one when I downloaded it, at least :/ Anyway, nice links. I have been using RPG Maker for about 8 years now (2k, and a few years later, 2k3), and its really easy to use and newb friendly. You can make some nice stuff without knowing how to use it, and with some practice, you can make pretty much anything with it, like custom menus and zelda like battle systems. Even though it takes lots of time to code it, as rpg maker wasnt made to do that. (Not time to learn, time to actually keep doing everything. Like copy pasting the same line of code all over again, but changing one variable each time, etc) |

I mean, the original version of the 2k3 isn't even on sale in japan anymore by their creators enterbrain... I can take that link down though, but it will be pointless since I will still probably require you to check that same downloads site for other utilities and easy download... so I can take it down this thread, but it's still going to be in that forum section where you'll have to browse through it. And I have been messing with rpgmaker since 2001 till now. I use a lot of enterbrain products, and I own XP and VX btw. Btw what virus? I scanned them with AVG and it didn't show any infections. On regards the thanks for the links, no problem. ![]() EDIT: Anyways, I updated the thread and added videos of the OpenBOR engine and a link to the main forum where you should go to download the stuff necessary for it. I guess they fixed it. When I got it, my antivirus said it had one.
I didnt like VX and XP too much. I dont feel like learning how to script, and they lack many of the non script things 2k3 had. Did you try AGM, by the way? I heard it was pretty good, but since I couldnt speak japanese or find a working patch, I couldnt get it to work. |

I agree, but nowadays there are soo many scripts out there that bring back all those functions... they are also plug n play, so you just copy + paste the script and you suddendly have a caterpillar party effect, or an animated title screen, or a change party system haha... you deffinitely should check some of those scripts out, you'll get addicted again like in the 2k3 days man... ![]() I was going to try it, but I have an old CPU (pentium 3 733mhz + windows 2000 SP4 ) so I can't run it, and I can't really install WinXP on this computer... it's basically rpgmaker in a different way, and you can make action rpg / platform / shooter games. It's expensive though, consumes a lot of memory as well, but other than that it's a nice system just like most maker programs by Enterbrain. I personally felt sort of dissapointed about it since I couldn't run it in my PC but I am aiming to make a Console portable MOD with OpenBOR next year which will be a beat-em-up, kinda the type of game I was looking forward to make (not quite but close enough). Well, there are english patches for it, but I want to say that it's coming or already came out in america haha, hold on, in some minutes I'll add it to the thread with a link to a community that is based off that maker... I'll notify you when I do, I have to get it, but I'm pretty sure it's coming in english this year (if I hasn't, I wouldn't know since I stopped bothering with it)... btw it's not called AGM anymore, it's called indie game development or some crap haha... EDIT: I included the links for AGM (IG Maker) in the thread, I also added some video links for games made with it and other games made with the other programs that didn't have it lol. Well I tried it out when it first came out, so it wasnt english yet.
From what I have seen, its pretty easy to use. When you start the project it lets you choose if you want to make an abs/platform/shooter game, and then you just do stuff kinda like rpg maker. |

The only response I could find about anything like that is this old 2k one. I know about the so called 'history' I was around for pretty much the whole thing, doesn't make you giving a link for it justifiable really. I'm not normally one to care about this sort of thing, but comparing it to sprites is downright laughable. I mean seriously, think about what you just said. While places like the spriter's resource contain copyrighted material, it's not as if you could find a way to get said material legally, like sending Capcom 20 bucks and getting a CD with Megaman sprites in the mail. |

Basically now you understand what I meant by "the exception"... it can't be illegal at all cause it wasn't available in english in the first place (and it still isn't and sadly will never be... meh). Now at this point with the new makers released, people condemn cracked copies of them because there are legal official english versions of them released worldwide... ![]() Edited by Antifarea - 16 August 2009 at 8:33am |

The english version is an edit of the japanese one.
If you download the Japanese one, you are doing it illegally. If you buy the japanese one, and edit it in any way (like translating), I am pretty sure thats also illegal. So when you download the english 2k3, you are wrong twice, the way I see it. =P |
