Hey guys.  I'm new here
I'm not really experienced in pixel art, but I'm learning and I want to expand my knowledge.

I've created a piece to go along with an indie game that's being developed, and the creator did something to my piece that I can't seem to recreate.  This is where you all come in.  I need to know what he did!  It seems he might have just added a blur filter to it, but all the filters I've added seem to blur it TOO much.  I'll post the original that I made, and the altered version that he touched up.  Hopefully you guys can shed some light on this.

I like what he did, I like the softer outline it gives, but the loss in detail is bothersome to me.  I want to keep the softer lines without losing the detail.  I'm just looking for some direction, whether it be to download some new filters for photoshop, or whathaveyou.

Thanks!

I think he threw over a semi transparent green layer? That would make the dark parts brighter and the bright parts darker... And there might have been a gradient in that layer too.

But these automatic changes make that the second armor can not be called pixel art any more.

Yes, I agree.  However, I do like what he did with it, even if it's "cheating" in a way.  Thanks for the info, I'll play around with my original some more.

I suspect that he first isolated the black lineart then did a motion blur at 90degrees with a setting of .25 or .325.

I hate that!!! You can create the same thing (even better) with pure pixels.
