Nothing says autumn like baseball.
Wait no. Anyhow, here's what I have so far as I start making a ball playing girl. ![]() ![]() ![]() Advice? I am still very new to pixel art - my last efforts are in the Black Swordsman WIP thread. |

Moving on to the outlining.
I knowthat some of the spots are really 'blobby' I guess? When I color the outlines I hope it'll clean that up.

I don't have any useful input (then why am I posting? I have no idea) but I cannot wait to see this finished. I was smitten from the first silhouette--great style and your sense of balance creates enormous jealousy in me. No, wait, I may have useful input--her further arm seems a little stiff--maybe the lack of flesh on the upper forearm? It seems very rigid, a little unnatural. The stiffness wasEdited by Petrichor - 20 November 2009 at 2:50pm |

I followed your recommendation, Pipe, and thickened the arm on the right side (her left). It does look better. Except...
Petricor, I know what you mean about the stiffness. I'm not exactly sure how to fix it. When I try to bring some of the curve back, the edges get really lumpy and jagged, and I think it looks ugly. But the cleananglesare just as bad. :/
Well.. Something to work on. This is eventually going to be animated, so I'll have lots of opportunities to draw those arms again and again, and surely they'll get better.
In the meantime, another update. Some colors on there... Choosing colors is incredibly hard. I've been building little pallettes with Kuler but I'm not sure I like how thast works.

Hm, I see what you mean about it getting lumpy, so I may have been wrong there--I think the stiffness is preferable and easier to overlook. I do that sometimes: find myself in a bad situation, anatomywise, and unsure of what the lesser evil is. Feel free to disregard that particular critique--although possibly with your coloured outlines you'll be able to fake it!
Looking good so far. The torso already has really nice dimension. I can't wait to see this finished. Your style is v. appealing.

![]() I tried to fix her (our right) leg and her arm and changed the shoe a bit... I wont tell you why I changed those details I think you will figure it out by yourself(to lazy to explain).Anyway I think you show some potential as a pixel artist and your first pixel art is looking pretty good so far... You know, Pipe, I understand the edit to the leg, and the slight change to the elbow, but I'm rather at a loss as to what you found wrong with he shoe. Maybe you could explain that one. :D
One more update. Took the shine off the shorts, and it does look better. Those shoes, though... They still need work.
I need to makea skin pallette now I suppose.
The bat layer isn't shown so thelines weren't so distracting.

![]() ok let me try to explain.First of all I think you should take a closer look at that leg.Its upper half is rotated more like the other leg and the lower part(and the shoe) is facing towards us and that makes it look like she is in some akward position.About the arm I thickened the upper part because it looks like she has 3 elbows(cant explain that one better but compare the edit I made earlier with yours). Also I would thicken her (our left)leg I mean the pants.I might be wrong so feel free to correct me. Looks great!
Maybe she's a little too relaxed to make for a really dynamic picture, you might want to make her more tense, maybe bent forward a little, bent knees, or something. Sorry I can't help more, I'm no good at anatomy. |

Manupix, I know what you mean about the pose. It lost a lot of 'edge' as I refined the pixels. I'm still working on how to make things dynamic while still maintaining clean lines. future stuff with this character will be better, hopefully.
Pipe. I adjusted the knee and her upper arm to something sort of like you had in your edit, maybe a bit more or less. But I'm going to keep her foot as is for the time being.
I pared the color count down to 14 + transparency. That leaves me space for one or two reds for the stitching of the ball, maybe, or something else...

Well, here's the latest.I'm thinking...done?
If not done, damn near.

![]() I think I could submit this to my gallery without being terribly embarassed. Any last suggestions?
