So, I wanted to switch from Graphics Gale to GIMP, because I'm very pro-GNU.

One of the first idea I came upon was to make keyboar shortcuts for cycling through the palette. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm grokking GIMP.

I try to assign keys to the Foreground Palette Colour Next and Previous and various others but it does not seem to work. When I assign keys to the "increase red", "decrease blue", "next palette" and so on everything works perfectly, only when I try to assign something to switching the colours within the palette does stuff go awry.

Does anybody know what causes this?

Hey Minstrel, cheers for making the switch! Have you considered GrafX2 instead of GIMP? It's designed specifically for pixel art and it's GPL.

I wrote that functionality. It requires a 'palette editor' dockable to be part of your gimp session (doubleclick on a palette in the 'Palettes' dockable). You're better off using the 'Swatch' variation though -- that looks first for an image colormap to cycle through and then for a palette if the colormap weren't available.
absolutely.

I actually downloaded and starte playing with it, but it will take some time getting used to. :D

Yet, I am actually inclined to cross over fully to it and leave GIMP as my Photoshop alternative.
