Pixel Joint Forum: Dead tree in the moonlight WIP

Message

I attempted to make it look like the moon with illuminating the tree (A bit of dark gray at the edges of the tree, Etc) But it didn't work out so well.

Any C+C, particularly the moon? I haven't attempted a moon before, so it might not be that good. 

(Don't judge the color count harshly, I'm not too focused on conserving colors yet.)

2. I added a little bit of dark gray
3. I made the dark gray lighter, and defined the trunk a bit more.

	If memory serves, at night most colors are washed out to almost nil, because human night vision is almost black and white. If anything I'd say reduce the saturation till the tree is nearly grey too, and darken the sky. Make the reflected light onthe tree more like the moon. I could be completely wrong, though. D:

	Good point. I'll try shading it with Dark/Purple and see how it turns out.

	Nope, I tried it a few times, and it turned out... Less than decent. ... I added more branches.

	The main problem is, the tree should be back-lit by the moon, and thus darker than the sky. Check this thread. The tree can improve too, the moon looks too big. I also agree with Anoniguy about colors; greytones can work well as in the other thread, blues are often used to mean night (even if unrealistic, it's usually nice). Then, you might work on a larger canvas, it would probably be easier and nicer. Around 100x100 is a more efficient size for most pieces.
