Hello guys, I am new to pixel art, and i want to show some of my work for criticism.

Cabin:

Wanted to put smoke out of chiminey put couldn't think of how :P

Voltorb:

Made a pokemon :D. I used a reference picture on this one.

Flame Sword:

Seems a bit to straight :/ But curving it distorts it a lot, not good at swords.

All criticism NEEDED :)

That Voltorb looks nearly exactly like the original. <_< And it has transparency, while the other two don't. Hmm...

WHERE'S YOUR CURIOUS VILLAGE NOW?! O-o [/rage]

Seriously, though. Did you really make that Voltorb?

We call that "tracing", fyi. Traced stuffed gets iffy attention when trying to get into the gallery.

We call it ripping, actually (though this would technically be an edit. barely). Pokemon sprites made by Nintendo are denied, nothing iffy about it.

google references of swords, search the site for iso house references.

It's also pretty clear that the house is a direct step by step of this tutorial.

Although I see that you added a chimney under your own steam, without really paying attention to what the tutorial was trying to teach you about isometric perspective. Tutorials aren't there so that you can copy them pixel for pixel (although that's a valid way to supplement your learning); they're there so that you can learn about the underlying principles that make a certain style of art (like iso) what it is.

That means the only thing here we can really offer critique on is the sword.

Pixel art takes a lot of patience, time and effort. I know that sounds very de-motivating, but it's important to keep working at it. It's fun to compare your oldest work with your newest and see the improvements.

I encourage you to keep searching the Internet for various tutorials, eventually you start to develop your own style and really master it. You have a very clear idea on what you want your sword to look like (the concept is there). Look online for references to how you can make flames, look at pieces with flames in them, you'll be lucky to find a tutorial on how to pixel flames.

A good website for different styles is Deviantart, use that website to look for different references. Incase you didn't know, Deviantart is a website where artists submit their art, so use their search bar, they have just about anything.

It's hard to start off doing pixel art, you get harsh critisism when you start and sometimes that's difficult enough. When I first started making pixel art 5 years ago, my first attempt was a poor recolor of a video game sprite, eventually I made more and more until I became a lot better.

Keep in mind that people advance at different levels and different speeds, thisi s why patience is key in pixel art. You'll always be critisized on "what would look better" but really it comes down to whether you are satisfied with it or not. So try your best, it's more impressive to watch someone improve over time, then to try and impress people when you have just started.
