there are tons out there, but they're really, really awful mash-ups of sprite rips.

I've been tossing around a webcomic idea for about a year and I've tried any number of mediums to do it in but I've found pixel art is just really *time consuming* for any kind of serial comic. Then again, I pixel extremely slowly. Part of the problem is it would be difficult to adjust to a small-scale comic and to fit dialogue in, so naturally the comic gets sized up and becomes more time-consuming. On the other hand I found tending in a more oekaki-ish direction was actually quite speedy and it definitely makes your art stand out.

Anyway, if you wanna try it, you should just try it. :) Can't hurt to try and the worst that happens is that you realize it just isn't gonna work. No tragedy. I have drawn the first two or three panels of my comic's introduction about six times now :P

Lo-Ku has it about right: simple and funny and non-story-arc. It'd be harder to do a COMIC as opposed to a webcomic, I suppose.

I used to read this one, back when it was active: http://www.squidi.net/comic/amd/view.php?series=amd&ep=1&id=1

The guy got in an argument with Penny Arcade, then stopped and never could properly resume, so it's pretty dead in the water. It's not very detailed pixel art either but imo it made for a good comic. He updated daily too, never used to miss a day.

(Later he started drawing backgrounds by hand, though, that's why you won't see 100% pixel art images if you go directly to www.squidi.net)

So yeah, it's possible to do without delay. I suppose it depends on how detailed you wnat your pixel art to be too.

Besides, you don't have to update daily. You can even do a lot in advance and then publish it all at once.

I think it is an awesome idea, and you should do it. Either just for fun, or it could get big, who knows.

Anyone remotely interested in sprite comics should read this.

Has some very innovative technical thingies going on, as well as a good storyline with some deeper thought. and pretty good art.

I think you're going to find that practically EVERYTHING is interesting if it's done well.

Things are fueled by passion and as long as you're doing what you love, people should follow.

My 2 cents...
