Games backgrounds are usually made by repeating tiles. I'd suggest you do that. Make one simple tile of dirt with grass borders and repeat it > path; make one clean tile with those plants (grass??) and repeat it, and you're halfway done. Add a few details like the flower, rocks and foreground ferns and it's great.
Clean means: readable (those spiky plants: look like trees or mountains); neat lines (no jaggyness, nice curves); good color and shading (if any). Color: since the ant is green, grass should be anything but. It's ok to make it orange, or blue, or pink. It will save you from finding a nice grass green, which is harder than it may seem! Sky is too saturated, it could be any crazy color too. There's a general lack of contrast, esp in the ant. Highlights should be much lighter, shadows darker. Two more tones could actually be used. Don't even try to dither at this stage! Oh, and welcome! Edited by Manupix - 30 January 2010 at 6:40pm |
