Hi there,

I've recently commenced my journey on the (very) long path to pixel mastery. I stumbled across this site late last week, and after browsing both the forums and the amazing gallery over the weekend, figured I'd throw myself in the deep end and join!

I've been playing around with a few sprites and a bit of art, but figured while practice is good, c + c from those that have a wealth of experience probably wouldn't go astray!

I started working on this earlier this afternoon, and have had my fill (at least for today).  I realize some of the line work on the left side is a bit jaggy - I'll have a crack at that tomorrow. I'm particularly interested in comments/critiques on my shading & highlights as they often seem to make or break a picture. Also, any advice on my rather crappy clouds and flag?

Cheers

Edit: Image showed up as broken for me the first time, I guessed that fixed itself.

Make sure the line of the windows on the shadowed side follows the line of the building - check it with the roof (I'll make you an edit in a second). Actually, make sure the four angled lines on the roof are consistent - it's okay to make a line to use as a guide. Are you trying to do an isometric building? In that case, this Noobtorial should be of help:

Cheers iggybork,

Wasn't originally planning on making it iso, but it looks as though it'll be helpful in terms of cleaning up my lines. I'll have a look later this arvo.

When you do so, keep in mind that these lines must be exactly the same length:

Otherwise it will look weird and you'll be tearing your hair out trying to figure out why.

Iggybork wasn't suggesting you make it iso. He saw no pic and was just using an example showing something cuz he's lame like that ;)

EDIT: My bad all, iggybork is a girl

Hey Guys,

Cheers for the very helpful feedback! I've adjusted the lines on the shaded side, and i think the image looks much better for it! Might be time to move onto something else now - something without windows!
