I'm not looking to actually submit a piece of artwork. I'm just looking for a way to upload a custom avatar, which is pixel art, and also, is not my work.

Only gallery pieces can be used as avatars here... And only original artwork may be submitted to the gallery. Unless the author of the avatar you want to use submits it here, you're out of luck. Sorry!
