Looks like there's no theme requirement. Sort of a "Use your imagination in these colors". Makes it a bit harder to follow the lines, but at least the limitation in colors should give some ideas.
I'm still working on ideas from the last couple of contests. This one seems interesting enough to actually enter this time. If I ever get around to finishing anything that is. |

Canvas Size - Exactly 100 x 200 Didn't join any challenge in ages, so I might actually try this one. I'm probably going to do some water-themed picture, since we got loads of blues in this random palette. First rough draft: ![]() Blue-ish or rather red/purple roof? |

Doesn't the canvas size has to be 100x200px or 200x100px? |

I also noticed the loads of blues we've got this time, I'm actually thinking about sth related to water too... I liked the red/purple roof. It seems to be a well lightened scene, and the first blueish roof looks dark, I don't know, I liked the second one the most. |

Hi all.
My first challenge, so I'm not sure how to enter? I have submitted my entry in the normal way on the site... is that all I need to do, or does it need to be here too? Idea is a desert wanderer, with hot sun blazing away at left. Used 6 colors. Watchafink? Edited by Xellie - 04 May 2010 at 3:49am |

Yup, all you need to do is submit the piece to the gallery normally and check the box which says "Submit to weekly challenge", which you have done. Nice atmosphere btw.

I'm pixeling this classic image by legendary sci-fi illustrator Criss Foss:
![]() Here's where I'm at so far: ![]() Still pretty rough. Working on the spaceship, right now, but the sky is barely even started. Nonetheless, this crazy palette is a lot of fun and its working pretty well for me so far. The background is a little murky though, if only there was a black in there! However, working without black is a great challenge. |

@Fawful, sometimes when you edit a piece, your avatar won't show up in the
forums. Just go to the piece you want to use as an avatar and click "USE FOR AVATAR".
BTW, I like your colour selection. |

Ah,so that's what it was.Thanks,Skamo.
Ultimaodin, that's a good start, the skyline looks pretty good! The reflections in the water, and the water in general look like they could do with a bit of work however.Try making the beams of light in it go strait down, and make the waves that are closer a bit bigger, maybe. Update:
![]() have most of the details on the bottom of the ship done, which were really fun to do. The stripes on the round tanks on the side were giving me grief so I erased them and am just getting the shape of the tanks right before putting them back in. Still haven't touched the sky, although somehow I managed to accidentally selected the whole piece and moved it over a few pixels. oops! also, manja man that is excellent! Here's an idea I had when I saw your first wip:
One thing I love about chris foss is that his designs aren't based on airplanes like most are. He knows full well that in space you don't need to be aerodynamic, so instead he bases his ship designs off of other crazy ideas, making them any shape he wants, wether it be asymetrical or non-aerodynamic (this is of course nothing to say of the crazy paint jobs he gives his machines). In the case of this painting, it looks more like a submarine than a starship. in fact, if you use your imaginiation, the murky green recesses of deep space could just as easily be the murky, green depths of the deep sea. so my idea, is that once I finish my background (I hope to get it done today) you could do a similar background on your piece, and try and match the right edge of yours with the left edge of mine. so when we put the two together, they blend seamlessly into either a space whale and a starship, or a deep sea sub and blue whale. it can be a semi-colab and we can leave it up to the viewer what they are looking at. I dunno, maybe a space whale is just as kitschy, but I thought it sounded fun! |

Don't try to force ramps that aren't there, because it'll just end up looking bad. I'd keep the purples out of other ramps, because of how saturated they are, and most others aren't. The blues here are very overpowering, so you might want to keep that in mind. In other news, I did a mockup for one of those "climb down forever" games. Not sure if I'm done with this yet or not, I thought I was, but went back and added the Jason enemy and tweaked some things. ![]() Edited by Setzer - 05 May 2010 at 7:21pm |

A ramp is basically a progression of colors you use on an something.
![]() i scribbled some examples used on the mockup here, because its probably something easier shown than explained. |

Here's my latest:
It's approaching completion, I got the sky to look better, even if it doesn't look exactly like the pic I'm pretty satisfied. Any C+C is helpful, as always. I'll post the original again for easy comparison.
Sera, it's looking good, just add more shading to the dolphin, use the dark green to create some more contrast. The grey is also useful here as a neutral color and is great for antialiasing. Thank you for keeping this piece dither free, that is the best choice you could have made. Edited by ooshmaster - 06 May 2010 at 1:54pm |
