It seems that whenever I copy and paste a pixel from the internet into Photoshop CS5, it adds numerous unwanted colors that are very very slightly different from their base colors (basically unnoticeable to the human eye).
This is a problem because I am running an ISO collab on a fansite which means that I am constantly having to update the main picture with tiles that people submit, but the color count on the image is ruined. So my question is, is there a known fix for this? Edited by Justincrdibl - 13 August 2010 at 10:04pm |

This can happen with any PS.
You all need to work with the same ICC profile (seen when you open a new document and in prefs) or you're gonna get all that sub pixel madness...been there...unfixable. If you run the master image then 'import' files instead of copy paste or even easier is to have your settings then select all > drag n drop into your master (auto converts to your ICC) Edited by jalonso - 13 August 2010 at 9:50pm |

ADDENDUM:
I'm not aware what is the ICC I use for pixelart but go to my gallery and download anything in there and open in PS to get the ICC profile for it. Then make sure your PS settings also have that one. When importing other's art NEVER use their ICC, when/if prompted check the discard option. I think copy/paste brings theirs in but select all > drag/drop does not. |

Thanks for the advice, jalonso!
I feel like a complete idiot for not trying 'Save image as' first... It's been a long day. Problem solved. |

Your pixels are gifs, which don't store profiles. When importing other's art NEVER use their ICC, when/if prompted check the discard option. I'm surprised at this advice, I've always heard and done the exact opposite :S Though I've never had any advice specifically for PA, or indexed colors generally. I thought that attributing a profile did not change the actual colors but just the way they're displayed by OSses. On the contrary, converting to a profile does change colors, and this is what must not be done, unless for a reason. I may be wrong though, this is so complex. Everytime I think I've got it right, some problem arises that I can't deal with. Relatedly, there is also the issue of png browser display 'fixes', which might be responsible for color shift in collabs. It's advisable for collabs to use gif only, and make sure everyone is aware of it. I recently found this while browsing an old collab here, I don't understand half of it though. Same as ICC profiles, since it seems to affect display I don't get it how it can change actual colors, unless pple take screen captures. |

Manupix, this is very complex thing (for me) but I did have it happen to me many years ago to a psd file not an output file and had to re-pixel everything. Haven't made a png since :/
You are probably correct so ignore my comment. Crazy png link for you. |
