I usually don't care when I get these, you don't go tell a painter that you painted that wrong, but this one rubs me the wrong way as I though this one's my best pixel so far:

http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/57156.htm

I don't see anything here that needs fixing, and it's for my friends game (like I told in the description) so I followed his simple style - also the palette was given by him iirc. Also, it's small so there's not much you can do to detail it without making it look ugly. Lastly, I showed the crappy version for this reason alone, to show that I've improved.

So, reasons please.

These things generally come with a small message, what was it?

"Your piece was not able to gather the score needed for inclusion in the gallery."

But that does'nt tell anything that I really need to know. The animation was the same quality as my others, but the pixel itself was less detailed, for the reason mentioned. People really can't expect you to always make detailed pieces if you make one once.

That one simply means that people didn't like it*, not that there is anything wrong with it. Try resubmitting again, maybe you'll have better luck this time. :)

*In order for something to get into the gallery members (level 2 and up) vote YES or NO on a piece.

um, no. don't do that. if it's rejected, it require revision. mods hate seeing the same stuff resubmitted over and over without improvement.

simply didn't meet the quality standards of the voters, probably due to the palette (which is over-saturated and could use some hue-shifting), and the general simplicity of the form. I don't think it's necessarily bad, but it's definitely borderline.

I'm aware of that, nobody took the time to tell what they didn't like about it.

But it meets the purpose (to be enemy in a game) and what's the point of the gallery, if you've to cater to everyone before getting the piece in? I wanted it to be like that, with the palette chosen for the game, isn't that the main point with art, to express yourself, not to express for others?
I understand why there's the public queu, to keep clearly bad and rushed pixels out, this wasn't rushed, bad is in this case subjective, but the main reason I wanted it in the gallery because of the animation and because I had old crappy version of it.

I'd say it's the worst pixel you've submitted this year, honestly :/

I couldn't tell it was meant to be a pear from looking at it, there's too little contrast in some places and fr too much in others. I'd recommend opening a WIP thread if you really want to improve this.

And tell your friend to get a better palette ;)

(sorry for chopping up your quotes, but I wanted to put similar arguments together. Please let me know if you feel I've misrepresented you)

Achieving the purpose you set out for is not part of the criteria for approval. While I can't speak for everyone who voted, the public queue generally judges pieces on their merit and suitability for the gallery. Maybe it looks absolutely perfect in your game and could not possibly be improved in that role, but it does not have the same legs on its own in a pixel art gallery.

You shouldn't let the this be a blow to your ego. I've made lots of pixel art that I'm proud of but would never submit to PixelJoint, even if it perfectly serves the purpose I created it for. Some stuff just isn't right for the gallery.

This is a straw man. No one is saying you can't express yourself. You can make whatever art you want and put it on your website, post it on dA, nail it to a phone pole, put it on a billboard, write it in the sky, etc. What you can't do is ask to hang it in someone else's house, then complain that they're stifling your creativity when they decline.

"Bad" art is in all cases subjective. That's why it's so difficult having a moderated gallery.

Can't be the worse than the Chicken thing I submited for the lulz...

And in my experience, the wip board isn't always that helpfull, and there's no point improving this, my friend liked it and it looks exactly the way I wanted it to look.

Not really, this site is for pixel art, the same art medium I choose to use right now, this's not any house, but a public house that's supposed to collect arts from the same medium.

Anyway, I see I'm fighting windmills, might aswell close this flopix.

Edit: Might be the first forum that doesn't allow to you close your own topics...
