Hi there !
I'm trying to make a little something for this week's challenge, and since I'm not a very original girl, I decided to make a robot :p So here it is (not finished at all), but I wanted to get some advices about it (if anatomy and lighting was correct in particular) :
(oh and please forgive me for my bad english, I'm french ><) |

Its looking well overall but the blue color palette has almost no contrast at all. The yellow palette looks better balanced.

It's beautiful Nim. I think it looks better now actually. I like the low contrast but feel it was too light in the 1st post.

it looks good, but I think you're still being too conservative about the contrast. When you compare the original with a quick adjustment I made, the original looks very washed out.

Contrast is basically having a larger range of variations and comes in multiple forms, such as light/dark or between different colors or textures. Since so far it's mostly just light/dark variations of the same color with the same texture, it needs that light/dark range to be expanded. Either that or the types of colors used (reds, yellows, etc.) could be expanded. |

Looks very nice so far, except for the contrast thingy others have mentioned. What sort of animation are you going to do? :o

Looks awesome. Reminds me of Ghost in the Shell and Björgs music video "All is full of love".
I'm not quite sure about the nose though. |

Oh, it's really better with more contrast ! Even if I liked the matt texture...
I'm not fond of the nose also, and I didn't like her eyebrows... (maybe I'll try to put them back latter)
I change the nose in a more "inhumain" way, what do you think about it ? |

Colour is the most important thing in art!
Asthetically anyways.

I forgot a little about the 16 colors restriction =u=°
So here it is, edited, with the heart shaped hole instead of a rectangle...

The contrast is much better but I think you are still being timid about that. Also, if some green/brown bits were added in it would totally transform the 'plastic' look into a more metal based covering.
Hate the heart, its size, its failure to conform to the breast form, the outline...if you will be adding gears inside that it will look even uglier. The open eyed version loses the mystery the closed eye version has. Its gone into the doll side of the line and left the cool bot realm. If you are thinking of animating the eyes then a side to side almost closed lid could keep its mystery. |

the center of the chest seems the likely place to put it, as it would fit perfectly. The heart is more centrally-located anyway, and robot anatomy has some wiggle room even if the human heart is sliiiightly to the left in humans' chests. seconding the contrast crit, it's better, but could be pushed further.
not commenting on the 'most important thing in art' bit ;) |

Jalonso : I personnaly like the heart shaped hole, so I'll keep it, and YES I still intend to put gears in ^^ Yet you're right for the eyes, I'll try to animate them with a half-opened version.
Cure : Oh, I didn't think about placing the heart in the center, but it's a good idea ! I'll try [after some test, the heart in center is ugly -__-] Edited by Nim - 09 June 2011 at 1:11pm |

I change the nose in a more "inhumain" way, what do you think about it ? I think it's better, but there's still something wrong with the bridge of the nose. Too broad, perhaps. Actually, it might have something to do with something cure pointed out in another thread. There should be a recession above the nose and between the eyes, which isn't really clear in this picture. I understand the discussion about whether to keep the eyes open or closed. She seems very human with the latest set of eyes, losing some of the doll quality she had with closed eyes. I guess one alternative would be to draw blank eyes, without an iris or pupil. A bit cliché perhaps. Edited by CELS - 10 June 2011 at 1:09pm |

I "mitigated" the nose on the last version, and also kept the eyes half-opened to preserve mystery (but I like the idea she's half human)
