Job Description:
I am looking for a pixel artist to create new graphics for an Android remake of the original DOS Lemmings and Oh No More Lemmings games. Although the remake will be able to load the original graphics and levels from Lemmings, due to copyright issues this will only be possible if the user provides the assets from a copy of the original DOS game. Feedback from my previous remake of Lemmings for the Pocket PC platform (Pocket Lemmings) indicated that this is too complicated for many users, so I want to release a standalone game with new graphics and levels. If the user provides the original assets, the original Lemmings levels will become available as well. As a result, the format of the new graphics must exactly match those from the original game: e.g. the walk animation must consist of 8 frames, no larger than 10 pixels high and 16 wide, and use no more than 4 colors. Here's the full Lemming animation set from the original game: http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~zeppenfe/files/lemmings/lemming_anim.png I am open for suggestions regarding the type of creature to use as a Lemming replacement. My current plan would be to use Androids (from the Android logo), but I am ready to consider any other creature/character that can be made to fit the space and palette constraints. 4-5 tilesets will also be needed at some point, but I would like to get the "creature" graphics completed first. Payment: On the order of 50-100 EUR for the animations and for each tileset, negotiable. Direct bank transfer is preferred in the EU since free, otherwise paypal. Contact: mailto:zeppenfe@gmail.com if you are interested! Update I've gotten quite a few responses, so thanks for your interest! One of the challenges in remaking graphics for a classic game like Lemmings is to find a character that is equally cute, lovable and helpless as in the original. As a result, I am hosting a sort of "competition" between the interested artists, asking each to make a small walking sprite for an appropriate character that matches the size and color format of the original lemmings graphics: 8 frame loop, 10 pixels tall x no more than 16 pixels wide, max. 3 arbitrary colors (plus black = transparency). The total distance traveled should be 8 pixels per animation loop (1 pixel per frame on average). The background will generally be black, so a border isn't necessary, which should save a pixel or two. If anybody else is interested in participating, I would need their entry tonight, 30.6.2011 by around 20:00 CET. I'll be happy to accept later entries, but those would join the poll I am planning on the lemmings forum a little late. Edited by Johannes - 01 July 2011 at 4:07am |
