Having a bloody hard time wrapping my head around the concepts of light interacting with translucent objects, specifically ice. Had a little crack at trying to pixel an ice stallictite, but it looked VERY crap, hahaha.

So could anyone shine any light () on the subject, or provide any tutorials for it? I would greatly appreciate it.

i am working on an image right now that'll be a very good example of translucensy, and i'll show you when its don and submitted to the gallery

but for now i can say this:

when light hits a translucent object at a straight angle, it goes straight through the object (if the object is just a cube with straight edges)

however, then lightbeams are more tilted when they hit the object, they will start to reflect on the surface. every substance has its own angle that is the breakpoint between shining through and reflecting, but in pixels i think a 45 degree would most likely be good enough

more info on reflection is here:

Ah yes, I actually got an ice cube out of the freezer and had a good look at it, but its all straightish edges, whereas the stallictites im working on are like cones, so its way more confusing, hahah.

I did manage to make some pretty good looking stuff however, screenshot:
